In the 472^nd Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the Montana pop-punk band Shellshock Lullaby.

In our 472^nd Q&A, we get the inside scoop on the Montana pop-punk band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Shellshock Lullaby: Interview No. 472!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Shellshock Lullaby distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

We’re Shellshock Lullaby, a pop punk band that brings a unique twist to the genre. Our sound blends the raw energy of 90s grunge with a modern rock edge. We pride ourselves on our honest lyrics and high-energy performances that create a genuine connection with the audience. We strive to deliver a fun and relatable experience that resonates with them.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Shellshock Lullaby form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

The band was formed back in 2011 in Butte, Montana. Initially, our goal was simple: to create music that reflected our experiences and passions. We started jamming together in basements and garages, and our vision was to bring that raw, energetic vibe to the stage. Over the years, despite lineup changes, our core goal has remained the same: to connect with our audience through our music.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Yes, our goals have evolved as we’ve grown as musicians. While we initially focused on just getting our music out there, we now aspire to engage more with our fans, play live shows, and continue to push our creative boundaries. Our recent release of “Songs in the Movies” is a significant milestone, and we aim to keep writing, recording, and performing to reach new audiences.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

We draw inspiration from classic ‘90s pop punk and grunge bands, as well as modern rock artists.  Bands like Green Day, Blink-182, and Nirvana have shaped our sound and songwriting style. Their ability to blend catchy melodies with relatable lyrics inspires us to create music that speaks to our own experiences and those of our listeners.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

One of our craziest experiences happened while driving through Utah when we think we might’ve seen UFOs! We saw unexplained green lights in the sky moving around, and it was both eerie and fascinating. It definitely added an unexpected twist to our journey!

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Our favorite song so far has to be “Songs in the Movies.” It’s special to us because it marks a significant milestone after all the lineup changes and challenges we faced. The song encapsulates our journey and the emotions we want to share with our fans. Performing it live is always a rewarding experience.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Shellshock Lullaby? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Outside of music, we have some hidden talents! AJ is an excellent artist and has a knack for creating amazing visuals, while Russ can kind of juggle, which always brings a laugh. We also love outdoor activities like hiking and camping—Montana has so many beautiful places to explore. It’s a great way for us to unwind and bond as a band.

What is Shellshock Lullaby currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure. 

Right now, we’re focused on rehearsing with our new lineup and preparing for live shows again! We’re also continuously writing new material and exploring fresh sounds. Although we’re not currently offering merch, we plan to have some available when we hit the road.
