Getting to Know… Radioactive Pineapple: Interview No. 357 [📷: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Radioactive Pineapple; Tumisu via Pixabay]In the 357th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, Jake gives us the inside scoop from his band, Helsinki, Finland’s own Radioactive Pineapple.

“We try to avoid that generic playlist-sound and rather do things the Pineapple-way.” Given the band’s name is 🎙 Radioactive Pineapple, that makes sense! Jake, who answers our burning questions about the Helsinki, Finland skate/pop-punk band in this 357th (!) Q&A, adds, “I don’t know how to describe that better, but I think that has shaped us to be quite unique.”  Right on! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Radioactive Pineapple: Interview No. 357!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Radioactive Pineapple distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Jake: We try to avoid that generic playlist-sound and rather do things the Pineapple-way. I don’t know how to describe that better, but I think that has shaped us to be quite unique.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Radioactive Pineapple form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

Jake: 🎙 Ozzie and 🎙 Thoubi founded Pineapple in 2014 whereas I played in a band called Too Hot for Radio in 2012-2017 and joined Pineapple in 2018. However, despite our separate paths early on I think we all had pretty much the same goals; make the music you love, get people to listen to it, and eventually conquer the world.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Jake: I think the main idea is still the same, but I’d rather see it like what can we actually do in the near future and where that could take us. So basically, that is finishing our EP, writing new music, touring as much as possible and hopefully even abroad.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Jake: I think someone once said that anyone in this genre would be lying if they told that they are not influenced by Blink-182, and I also think that the same goes for Green Day. Moreover, I think our influences include bands like Social Distortion, NOFX and Alkaline Trio.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Jake: I think it was with 2h4r back in 2013 when we were playing at a local all age venue here in Helsinki. Our amps were way too loud so we couldn’t hear anything on the monitors. We screwed up almost every song and the audience were looking at us like WTF are those guys even doing here. So, it was a complete disaster and on top of that our guitarist answered his phone and started to chat about the next days’ plans with his friend, delaying the remaining songs. I really didn’t know whether to cry or laugh!

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Jake: I think the songs we record are getting better all the time, so I’ll pick a new one. We are pretty close to finishing our EP, so I think it’s safe to reveal that it’s called 🎵 “Insane”, as it is the opening track which I wrote. It’s a classic pop-punk anthem with a catchy chorus and slightly cheesy but still so smooth guitar riff, which Ozzie created after hearing my first demo.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Jake: When I was 14, I scored almost perfect in LMFAO’s “Get Crazy” on Tap Tap Revenge 3. It was my favorite game of all time, and you could see that just by looking at my old iPod’s screen. Shame that the game can’t be found anywhere anymore.

Closing out, what is Radioactive Pineapple currently working on or promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Jake: As revealed earlier, our new EP is about to be released in a few weeks’ time. Its first single,  🎵 “Angry,” will be out on June 2nd. And if you want to hear secrets, I’ll be a little mysterious and mention another band which seems to be broken up but is it so? I might have even mentioned its name.
