Getting to Know… Prospect: Interview 202 🎤 [📷: Arnesen Photography, Prospect, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype]For our 202nd Q&A on The Musical Hype, we get the scoop from Norwegian “energetic hard rock” band, Prospect.

“T

he goal from day one has been to make kick-ass music that eventually turns into making a living.” That’s a reasonable and respectable goal 🎙 Prospect.  I heart the mantra that our Norwegian interviewees from our 202nd Q&A on The Musical Hype subscribe to: “No thought is too big, no idea too bold.” Say that, say that! Prior to those memorable quotes, the band describes their style as “energetic hard rock” and more colorfully, “AC/DC on steroids.” What can you say to that but rock on!  So, without further ado, here is 🎤 Getting to Know… Prospect: Interview 202!

Prospect [📷: Arnesen Photography]Starting things off right, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Prospect distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 We like to describe our music as ‘energetic hard rock’, and I know the term “AC/DC on steroids” has been thrown around. We try to make catchy and groovy songs that make you want to move and sing along.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Prospect form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 Kenneth was originally a drummer but was getting sick and tired of looking for vocalists; so, he became one himself. The band went through various phases and genres. Eventually, we became an energetic hard rock band, even though every member used to be a metal head (and still is at heart).

We had a few changes in the roster, but now we feel like we’re a big family. The goal from day one has been to make kick-ass music that eventually turns into making a living.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 The goal is the same and it’ll never change, really. The only thing that you could call different now is that we think bigger. We invest more time, resources, and have gotten more creative. No thought is too big, no idea too bold. We want to show the world that we are serious about this.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 We take a lot of inspiration from the greats: AC/DC, Mötley Crüe, Guns N’ Roses, Airbourne. But we find inspiration in a lot of other places too. We all have a varied taste in music and listen to many different genres. But there’s something in pure rock ‘n’ roll that from the second you hear it, you feel it deep inside. It takes a hold of you, and you feel a need to rock out. We want to recreate that feeling with our music.

Prospect [📷: Arnesen Photography]Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Well, what happens on tour, stays on tour. We really can’t tell you, haha!
The one thing that keeps happening again and again during our shows, is that our drummer’s hardware malfunctions in some sort of way. He always double checks 99% of the kit, but that 1% always kicks in. Murphy’s law, I guess?

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

We just can’t choose one:

🎤 From our new album [💿 All Bets Are Off ] it’s:
🎵 “All Bets Are Off”, 🎵 “Turn It Up”, 🎵 “Bombshell”, 🎵 “Bottoms Up!” and 🎵 “Blame It On The Booze”.

From our previous album, 💿 Rock ‘N’ Roll Beats & Electric Guitars:

🎵 “Inmate #666”, 🎵 “Candyland”, 🎵 “Warzone” and 🎵 “Plug N’ Play”.

These songs just send out a certain message, you know? We love how these songs turned out lyrically and musically. Energetic, groovy, ass kicking and honest rock n roll.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 We have this ritual that we do before every gig, ever since we played in Plzen, Czech Republic. Andreas received a broken drum stick from the opening act, and he said it was for good luck. Now we call it “the lucky stick” and we all touch it before walking on stage.

Prospect [📷: Arnesen Photography]Closing things out, what is Prospect currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We just released our second album, 💿 All Bets Are Off on August 13th. It’s available wherever you stream music! This album was streamlined because of the pandemic. We suddenly had lots of spare time to write and record music, so we booked a studio in November 2020. 9 months later we finally released the album and celebrated with a concert on one of the most famous stages in Trondheim: Rockheim!

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
