Getting to Know... Planet For Sale: Interview #101 [Photo Credits: Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype, Planet for Sale]For the 101st interview in the ‘Getting to Know…’ series on The Musical Hype, we get the scoop on the UK alternative collective, Planet For Sale.

“We are not arrogant; we just believe that we are one of the best unknown bands out there.” Confidence – woo! The Musical Hype is firmly planted into the triple digits, when it comes to the Getting to Know… interviews series. For our 101st interview, we get the scoop from the UK collective Planet For Sale.  Planet for Sale, who’ve described their genre as “storytelling, urban country, musical universe, alternative,” is comprised of four members: Rooz Golpa (guitar and vocals), Jim Cannings (guitar), Jamie Snelling (drums), and Theo Prior (bass).  As always, we are so fortunate to ‘get to know’ with a number of musicians – particularly self-described “unknown bands” – we might not ordinarily connect with. So, without further blabbering by way of text, here is Getting to Know… Planet for Sale: Interview #101.

Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with Planet For Sale, what makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I would say that this stems from our enthusiasm and motivation to give people our unique flavour. This stems from the great lyrics that everyone can sing along to an anthemic spirit that gets people united. We are not arrogant; we just believe that we are one of the best unknown bands out there and we are proud of our backgrounds. Our motto is: ‘No Surrender!’

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your Planet For Sale form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

Over the years we have reinvented ourselves, but we are now perfectly happy with the lineup and the music we perform. Planet For Sale consist mostly of school and university friends, with recent bassist Louis joining us to make us completed. We now feel we can stand tall with the musical greats, provided we are given recognition that we believe we deserve.

Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

It’s never changed. It is to reach, engage and motivate the audiences to experience a show like no other. We are a ‘musical universe’ and we want to give that to the people.

Planet For Sale [Photo Credit: Planet For Sale]Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Our influences vary. Jim adores The Beatles and Oasis, Jamie loves Stevie Wonder and Blondie, Louis loves to listen to Sabbath on vinyl, while I (as Rooz) drown my sorrows with Joy Division and The War on Drugs. They are all influential due to our different yet distinctive backgrounds.

Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.

We know this going to embarrass Jim, but after a successful gig in London last year we stopped off for a few beers in a nightclub before heading back home, only Jim overdid it. whilst the car was hurtling along the motorway (though keeping to the speed limit lol), he woke up and chundered, with great enthusiasm, all over the side of the car (the window was open), making the paint job unique in colour.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

We all have our favourites. Individually this would be “The Dream” for Louis, Jamie would be “Change”, Jim probably “Wake Up Call”, though he states he likes all of them lol and mine would be “Be Good”. That being said we all enjoy performing all the songs.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

The cool thing about us is that we always have a good laugh whenever we are together. We get on like brothers and we feel like family.

Closing this thing out, what is Planet for Sale currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

We have recently released “Old Father Time,” which you can check out on all good music platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Amazon Music etc. We also have three more follow up singles due to be released later this year so stand by for that. Plus, we will be performing, for the first time since lockdown, at The Raven Tower Bridge in London on Saturday 12th of September. Tickets are now available. Please check out our Facebook page for more details. We would all love to see you there.
