OreaganomicsIn the 503rd Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the Mysterious underground American-based musical group, Oreaganomics.

“Oh, we stand out.”
That is a statement, Oreaganomics.  Oreaganomics adds, “We want to join scenes but not do what others do as, in our eyes, that would be pointless.” Word. Describing how they stood out, they expound, “We stood out as we played toys that we rewired.  Now we go out and do this lo-fi psychedelic soul glitch rock thing.” Intriguing stuff! We get the inside scoop on the band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Oreaganomics: Interview No. 503!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Oh, we stand out. We want to join scenes but not do what others do as, in our eyes, that would be pointless.  We cannot out-rap, out-sing, or out-produce anyone, and would just be burning money.  When we started out and did shows, we stood out as we played toys that we rewired.  Now we go out and do this lo-fi psychedelic soul glitch rock thing, which does not have a scene but has been positively received.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Oreaganomics form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

We were young, unpopular outcasts who wanted to try to be in a band.  The goals were to stand out but be accepted.  It went better than bad but not good.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or perspectives changed since you first started? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Our goal now is [figuring out] how to make money in music.  Our first release, Hand Turkey, is lo-fi, raw, experimental pop.  We made it next to nothing and made hundreds.  This next album, Locked Out on Valentine’s Day, is pretty, lo-fi, soul, orchestral pop.  [It was] a little more expensive to make, but maybe the improved quality will make more.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

P-Funk, Velvet Underground, Quincy Jones, Motown, David Bowie, Nina Simone, Weird Al, The Stooges, hip hop in general, country music pre-1991 in general, Wire, The Moldy Peaches, Outkast, Bowie, T-Rex, Tv On the Radio, Talking Heads, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Prince, Curtis Mayfield, Bollywood music pre-90s, Beck, Percy Faith, Labi Siffre and so many I forgot.  Music is one of those loves I wish I could quit.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

I do remember losing my keys and thinking they were onstage and looking for 20 minutes around the stage after we performed.  The audience thought it was some odd post-show performance.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

“Ladders from Earth.”  It’s hard to listen to, but we had such childlike joy making that thing and listening to it then.  You can’t stay in those moments, but you can cherish them.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Oreaganomics? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

If you want to collab, we’ll probably say yes.  We’ll say no if you’re trying to be both bland and shocking.  Shocking and dangerous is rock and roll, but you can’t be bland and dangerous.

What is Oreaganomics currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Locked on Valentine’s Day is our new album.  It was released on January 1st, 2026.  It’s our most acclaimed in terms of early reviews, so either we did something right or unleashed something horrible upon the world.  Either way, enjoy!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
