“What we feel makes us stand out from other metalcore bands is the way in which we blend our primary influences of early to mid 2000s metalcore and more modern, breakdown focused metalcore.” Awesome, 🎙 Oceans On Fire ! Oceans On Fire goes on to describe their sound as “highly melodic and heavy.” Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the Scottish metalcore band: the genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Oceans On Fire: Interview No. 332!

For those who may not be familiar with Oceans On Fire, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 We are Oceans On Fire, a metalcore band from central Scotland. What we feel makes us stand out from other metalcore bands is the way in which we blend our primary influences of early to mid 2000s metalcore (in the vein of Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and Trivium) and more modern, breakdown focused metalcore giving us a sound that is both highly melodic and heavy.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Oceans On Fire form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

🎤 We formed from the ashes of our previous band formed in our teens, with our vocalist, 🎙 Liam Nisbet, and two guitarists, 🎙 Jordan Street, and 🎙 Dani Heggie, being the current members that have carried over. This was in 2016 and over the years, we spent a great deal of time finding the perfect fit of members, which we have since done with the additions of our drummer, 🎙 Kerr Milne, and bass player, 🎙 David Falconer! Our main goals were honestly just to write songs and play shows that we can be proud of. Nothing gives us more joy than playing music together, and we just want to take that as far as we can!

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Our goals haven’t really changed per-say, but the ambitions attached to them have. Over the years, we have grown a great deal as performers, musicians, and songwriters, and we want to take those developed skills to new heights with hopes of performing at major festivals, touring the world with bands we admire,  and continuing to write and release music that we can be truly proud of!

Oceans On FireEverybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 We have a great deal of influences, as we mentioned before we are inspired a great deal by mid-2000s metalcore bands such as Killswitch Engage, As I Lay Dying and Trivium. Alongside these artists, we are also heavily influenced by bands such as The Devil Wears Prada, Lamb Of God, Thy Art Is Murder, Pantera, Suicide Silence, Architects, Gojira, and Tesseract. These artists all influence different members in different ways, but they mainly push us to constantly grow and evolve as what ties all of these bands together is the way in which they all have developed their own unique sound and musical identity as we intend to do as well.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 During our launch show for [our] EP, 💿 TRINITY, last year, our singer ended up being dragged backwards into the mosh pit that had opened up during the song. I will never forget hearing him mid song go from screaming and growling to letting out a small “aahhg!” before falling out of sight!

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 So far, out of the songs we have released, our latest single, 🎵 “Into The Void”, is one we are incredibly proud of and the reception it has received so far really feels like our listeners feel the same way! I think it is the pace and energy of the track that really sets it apart, perfect for moshing and circle pits!

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Our next show is on February 9th in Dundee, and it is the first heat of the Metal 2 The Masses competition. If we win all three heats, we get the amazing opportunity to play the Bloodstock Open Air Festival in England, which would be a dream come true! Nothing to left of center, but it is something we are really excited about!

Closing out, what is Oceans On Fire currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We are currently working on the follow up to last year’s 💿 TRINITY (EP). All the songs are written, and we are deep in to the recording process! That’s all we can share for now!
