Non TalkersIn the 488th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the couple-led, Portugal-based band, Non Talkers.

“What makes Non Talkers unique is the way we blend intimacy and intensity.”
Word, Non Talkers! In response to our first burning question, the band adds, “Our songs are built around honest storytelling and emotional harmonies that draw people in; it’s not just about sound, it’s about feeling.” Notably, this is the couple-led (Marco Brantner and Evita Brantner), Portugal-based band’s second interview on The Musical Hype (the band was first interviewed in 2020). Once more, we get the inside scoop on Non Talker’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Non Talkers: Interview No. 488!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Non Talkers distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

What makes Non Talkers unique is the way we blend intimacy and intensity. Our songs are built around honest storytelling and emotional harmonies that draw people in; it’s not just about sound, it’s about feeling.

When we play live, we aim to create a space where the audience can truly connect. Sometimes, it’s quiet and heartfelt, sometimes it’s powerful and energetic, but it’s always real. We want people to leave our shows feeling moved, like they’ve shared something genuine with us.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Non Talkers form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

Marco Brantner: When I met Evita, I already had a background in music, with an album released from my first band and later a solo album that I was promoting at the time. Evita had never planned to pursue music, but one day, I heard her softly singing along to a song, and I was completely blown away. I couldn’t believe the voice I was hearing and told her, “You’ve been blessed with a gift, and the world needs to hear it.” That’s really how our journey began. We naturally started a project together called Brantner, but we were still searching for our true musical identity. It wasn’t until 2019, with the help of drummer and producer Hugo Danin, that we finally found our sound and officially became Non Talkers, releasing our first EP under that name.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Honestly, our goal is still the same as when we first started – to connect genuinely with our audience. That has always been what drives us. Fortunately, our audience has been growing, and with that growth we’ve been able to experience some truly special moments of musical connection and shared emotion.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

From Elvis, The Beatles, Queen, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, U2, Radiohead, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, to James, these are just a few of the names that come to mind right now. Each of them has left a mark on us, shaping how we see songwriting, performance, and emotional expression in music.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Funny and strange things always seem to happen at some point during a show. One hilarious moment, at least for everyone except me, happened during a performance when I stood up from my stool as the song was building in intensity. Evita thought it would be a good idea to move the stool to give me more space, but I didn’t notice, and in my head, the stool was still right where I left it.

When I went to sit back down, I completely missed it and fell flat on the floor. Everyone burst out laughing, and I just kept playing and finished the song lying there. At least I didn’t break anything, except maybe my pride.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Marco: That’s another impossible question, because we’re really proud of most of the songs we’ve recorded, and each one represents something deeply personal. But for the sake of the question, I’d say “Lovin’”. It’s a simple song that came together very naturally, yet it carries a powerful emotion, and I love performing it live every single time.

Evita: For me, it’s actually some of the new songs we’re currently writing. I guess it’s normal to feel most excited about the new things, but I can’t reveal too much yet, laughs. From what we’ve already released, I really enjoy singing “Glory and Fame. It’s a song where I can really unleash all my vocal energy.

Non Talkers

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Non Talkers? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

We’re probably quite limited when it comes to hidden talents, but here’s a fun and meaningful story. When Evita and I were just about to start dating, she was a heavy smoker, and I told her that I was falling for her but could never be in a relationship with someone who smoked. She quit that very day and hasn’t touched a cigarette since. For me, that was an incredible sign of how serious and committed she was about our relationship, and it’s something I’ll never forget.

What is Non Talkers currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Right now, we’re focused on our Weight of Doubt tour, which will continue through 2025 and into 2026, taking us to new cities and countries across Europe. Alongside the tour, we’re releasing several new singles that will come out gradually over the next months, each one showing a different side of who we are as artists. We can’t reveal everything yet, but let’s just say there’s a lot of new music and a few surprises coming your way.

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
