Noah & The VoidIn the 490th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the one-man band, Noah & The Void, led by Noah Chartier.

“My music is very diverse, sonically; I pull from lots of different places, often bending genres, but always cohesive in overall sound.”
Cool, Noah & The Void! Beyond his musical endeavors, Noah Chartier adds, “I donate 100% of my stream rev. towards aiding pediatric cancer research.” Chartier shares his musical genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… Noah & The Void: Interview No. 490!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Noah & The Void distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Love the question; I think there are a couple key things that make ‘Noah & The Void’ unique! Firstly, my music is very diverse, sonically; I pull from lots of different places, often bending genres, but always cohesive in overall sound. I dabble in alternative, electronic, acoustic, and soulful principles, with even a piano ballad here and there. Finally, I donate 100% of my stream rev. towards aiding pediatric cancer research; I lost a friend when I was younger – and this is how I like to make an impact! I encourage you to visit evanscrew.org if you would like to read more about my friend 🙂

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Noah & The Void begin, and what were some of your goals or visions early on?

Noah & The Void, a one-man band, originated as a way to spread awareness for mental health, and the primary goal has always been to build a safe and positive community for people to interact, share their art, and listen to relatable music, down to the last emotion a human can feel.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since you first started? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

They haven’t waivered a bit. I could care less about my own capital gain; If anything, regarding myself, I’m hoping my music can be my chance to see the world. I want to travel and to play for as many people as possible!

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

I’ve been taking inspiration from different places, for different reasons. There are people like Flying Lotus and Jai Paul who are just absolute animals in terms of their production. Then you have really good lyricism by artists like Gavin DeGraw, James Taylor, and Jason Mraz. Dynamics galore from artists like Pinegrove; the stuff that subliminally keeps the listener coming back for more. And finally, you gotta have style nowadays; bands like Young The Giant and Arctic Monkeys take the cake there! All these artists are indeed quite different in most ways; however, when you push all of these sounds together, you start to see why my music sounds the way it does.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

I haven’t been on a tour yet; but something cute is that I almost always have my service dog with me on stage, wearing his little soundproof headphones. But there are times and gigs, where he’s decided to get up and stretch mid-show, or rest his head on my lap as I play piano on stage. He truly has become part of the band, haha.

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

My favorite song to sing live has to be “One Last Kiss.”  It’s usually how I end shows – and I count down into the last chorus with the crowd, then everyone starts dancing really crazy. It’s my favorite cause it gets the whole audience involved 🙂

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Noah & The Void? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Hmmm.. Oh, I’m a big ol’ nerd. Let’s just say I’m not one to back down from a lightsaber duel… Yes, that can be considered a challenge to whoever is reading this 😉

What is Noah & The Void currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Well, my debut album titled Relief dropped on October 17th! That’s been my main focus as of late. But you can expect more new music in the new year!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
