“Our sound is loud as the sound of an airplane and our vibes are very catchy!” Woo wee! That’s definitely an ear catching (or eye popping) response from 🎙 Next Door to Heaven, the band that graces the 176th interview on The Musical Hype.  Also memorable: “We are not typical metalheads, we’re musicians-melomaniacs.” Where are these colorful answers coming from? Well, that would be 🎙 Gene Mazunov answering on behalf of the progressive metalcore band, founded in St. Petersburg, Russia. As you can tell, he keeps things quite interesting! So, without further ado, here is 🎤 Getting to Know… Next Door to Heaven: Interview No. 176.

Next Door to Heaven [📷: Svetlana Kovalenko]Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with Next Door to Heaven, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 We are unique because of our raw and dirty riffs and sexy vocals. Our sound is loud as the sound of an airplane and our vibes are very catchy! That’s why everyone who’s ever heard us won’t be able to forget us!

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your Next Door to Heaven form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 Nothing special except for the world domination, of course. We are all musicians with huge experience, and we are trying to make music that’s special for us and for people who listen to us.

Next Door to Heaven [📷: Svetlana Kovalenko]Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Our idea is to become bigger and well-known for the audience worldwide. There is nothing more to say. Every band with ambitions wants it.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 This is a very funny question for us, and we can’t answer strictly. We love all genres of the music! From Bach to Cannibal Corpse, from Ella Fitzgerald to Abba. We are not typical metalheads, we’re musicians-melomaniacs.

Next Door to Heaven [📷: Next Door to Heaven]Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Once, before our gig, one guy which was drunk as hell, came closer to us and said: “Thank you for your performance. It was amazing! You’re amazing! I love you so much.”. The funniest thing is that [we were just about] to start the show.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 I love every song I wrote. They are all special for me ‘cause I wrote all of them. They are all based on my emotions and personal experience.

Next Door to Heaven [📷: Next Door to Heaven]Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Ha-ha. My secret talent is cooking. I can cook the most delicious kebab in the world. If only you could taste it…

Closing things out, what is Next Door Heaven currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 There’re no secrets. We’re working on release of our new EP called 💿 Inside. There’re 5 various tracks on it with one collab which will pleasantly surprise you.
