May the Muse [📷: May the Muse]In the 486th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Berlin-based American/German singer May The Muse.

“My goal was always to be able to live off of music, to spend a lot of time on the road, and come home to a bunch of animals.” That sounds nothing short of awesome, May The Muse (Désirée Mishoe)! The solo artist based in Berlin gives us the inside scoop on her musical genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know… May The Muse: Interview No. 486!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I write my own music, don’t use Autotune or pitch correct. Apparently, that’s rare these days.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did you get your start, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

I’m a solo artist, so in order to get a capable live band, I had to make some phone calls. My goal was always to be able to live off of music, to spend a lot of time on the road, and come home to a bunch of animals.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

My goals have definitely changed since I’ve understood how messed up the music industry is. I’m not trying to please anyone but myself.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

I love Prince, Sade, and everyone else with a fantastic vocal ability.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

The first ever festival I played was the Montreux Jazz Festival. My band and I had to fly in, and the airline lost all of our stuff. Guitars, clothes, makeup. Everything. Luckily, the festival made a quick turnaround and hooked us up with some amazing Instruments and made sure I had everything I needed. I loved it there!

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

“Roses” is so real. There’s barely any lyrics, but the song just hits me every time. I’ve worked with a string quartet on the album, and they’ve really nailed it.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

I spend most of my free time snowboarding and riding Frisian stallions. I’m also incredibly sound sensitive.

May the Muse, No Please, Yes Thank You [📷: May the Muse]Closing this thing out, what can you tell us about your latest single, “Cruel World,” and why should our readers give it a listen?

It’s a love song!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
