In the 344th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Lieder Distortion.
“Lieder Distortion want to take classical music, written by Mozart, Schubert, Vivaldi and others and make the music in the way we want to hear it..” Did you say, classical music, 🎙 Lieder Distortion? Please, tell us more! “When we studied classical music at the Academy of Opera, we always thought in the middle of a Schubert song or similar: “Here the guitars should come in, here the drums should start playing the crash cymbal, etc…” How cool is that! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Lieder Distortion: Interview No. 344!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Lieder Distortion distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
Lieder Distortion want to take classical music, written by Mozart, Schubert, Vivaldi and others and make the music in the way we want to hear it. When we studied classical music at the Academy of Opera, we always thought in the middle of a Schubert song or similar: “Here the guitars should come in, here the drums should start playing the crash cymbal, etc..
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Lieder Distortion form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
Lieder Distortion have been working on this album together with Swedish and Italian musicians since the day we dropped out of the Academy of Opera. After revising the album several times, we finally released the first single in January 2023. The album will be released on the Italian label, Shunu Records, to which we sent a demo at an early stage.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
Yes, from the beginning all the recordings were quite raw and difficult to listen to, but after the collaboration with Shunu Records, the versions have become more beautiful, bigger and more accessible, even if our genre is quite narrow
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
Classical composers, Britpop, Elvis Presley, Broder Daniel, Tarja Turunen. Very different types of music.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
A band I was in before managed to play two songs before the bassist broke his leg in a jump. One of the shortest gigs I’ve done.
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
It would probably be an answer quite far from Lieder Distortion. I have done a lot of different types of music and freelance as a singer. Lieder Distortion is an album that I felt needed to be made and where I could contribute something different with recorded music. On weekdays, I’m almost only a live musician. My favorite song with Lieder Distortion is the album’s first track that will be released as single #3 or #4. It is the song that was finished last for the album and is a little different from the others. It was also the song that took the absolute longest time to complete
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
Yes, for now I want to remain anonymous because I actually make quite different music than this otherwise, but we’ll see. I have done two Dungeon synth albums also anonymously.
Closing out, what is Lieder Distortion currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
The next single comes on March 24 and is a very famous classic song. I think every day whether I should be anonymous or not and whether it would be possible to combine this with my freelancing in music, but for now I leave it separate. There is something wonderful about being two people too..
Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
Wish you all the best!
