KrapfIn the 505th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from the progressive rock/metal band, Krapf

“Krapf is a progressive rock/metal band based in Baltimore, Maryland,”
multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Isaac Krapf says of his band, Krapf.  He adds, “I like to tell people we are melodic pop wearing a prog metal mask.” Intriguing. Krapft provides the inside scoop on the Baltimore band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Getting to Know…Krapf: Interview No. 505!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Krapf is a progressive rock/metal band based in Baltimore, Maryland. The project is headed by multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Isaac Krapf. I like to tell people we are melodic pop wearing a prog metal mask. Everyone in the live show is incredibly versed in their instruments and delivers a very ‘real’ performance experience, whereas a lot of bands now rely too heavily on backing tracks.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Krapf form, and what were some of your goals or visions early?

The band is guided by me (Isaac). Early goals were to open for some national acts, which we met in the past year (Black Stone Cherry, Paul Reed Smith, and Wednesday 13).

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or perspectives changed since you first started? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Our goals right now are to be fully self-funded and sufficient. We would like to continue creating positive memories for ourselves and the listeners of the music.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?

Influences include Devin Townsend (for the way he approaches the guitar), Rainbow (for how they structure songs), and The Gaslight Anthem (for lyrical and vocal approaches).

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

I had someone ask me for my “dirty, worn socks” and actually sent the bands’ PayPal money for them (The individual did NOT receive anything, and we returned the money to them).

To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

“Autumn” is most special to me as it was the very first song I wrote and released in early 2020. It was then remastered and re-released in August of 2024. All of the music and lyrics tell an overarching story following the character of ‘Autumn,’ a silhouetted individual found on all of the artwork associated with our singles and records. The lyrics and artwork bring a puzzle-solving aspect to our listeners as one song connects to the next, as chapters would in a book.

KrapfIs there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Krapf? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

On the very first record, Seasick, I (Isaac) wrote, played, and tracked all of the parts for guitar, bass, drums, and vocals on the album.

What is Krapf currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

We are currently set to release a self-titled album in 2026!

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
