On the 177th Interview on The Musical Hype, we chat it up with intriguing Italian musician, DJ, and performer In.Visible.
“In.Visible is something in and out of sound. Something inside the spirit. It is what tends to capture your mind first and then your body.” WORD. Definitely one of the more unique responses to grace a Q&A in our Getting to Know… series. Of course, we love distinctiveness here on The Musical Hype and 🎙 In.Visible (🎙 Andrea Morsero), the interviewee in our 177th interview, brings a heaping dose of it! A solo act “born precisely because I no longer had the intention of being part of a band,” the Italian musician, DJ, and performer provides some great insight into his craft. So, without further ado, here is 🎤 Getting to Know… In.Visible: Interview No. 177.
Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
🎤 In.Visible is something in and out of sound. Something inside the spirit. It is what tends to capture your mind first and then your body. Something to listen to with your eyes and realize that everything you are experiencing is real, tangible and going through you, when you then reopen them.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did career as In.Visible begin and what were some of the goals or the visions you had early on?
🎤 In.Visible was born precisely because I no longer had the intention of being part of a band and starting my independent musical journey. At that time, I was living in a 20 square meter studio in Nicosia (Cyprus), on the green line that divides the island into two blocks. At six in the morning, you could already feel 37º on the skin: it seemed an excellent first condition to create claustrophobic music in full condition of voluntary isolation. It was a moment of great cultural ferment and energy, something that is part of my personal heritage and that I will always carry with me.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
🎤 I guess when I started, I was really unaware of what I was doing. I had no knowledge of creating electronic music, but I threw myself into it with great enthusiasm. Now I feel I have greater awareness in myself as an artist but I always try to raise the bar a little bit step by step, also to keep alive that unconscious essence that directs my growth.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
🎤 Everything that influenced me as a listener, musician and DJ, influences In.Visible: rock, electronics, psychedelia, experimentation, pop, world music, at least as a musical aesthetic is something that is firmly in my memory, then I express those perception to the record I’m writing and what I want to tell.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
🎤 Well … many. I remember a crazy train journey from St. Petersburg to Moscow that lasted almost 11 hours with people crammed into every corner and where I drank tea straight from the train boiler. After a concert in Rome, I lay down in the dark on my bed in the hotel room and the owner was sleeping there … and then: I don’t leave any statements regarding the backstage 🙂
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
🎤 The next one that I will write because I like to know that there is something in the making that is bigger and more exciting than what I have done so far. I rarely look back; I like to live in the unknown of the future.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
🎤 Well, I’m a complicated man with many contradictions, I let whoever listens to me get an idea about me. I am very clear and limpid when I write and I try to talk about my life, my weaknesses, my perversions and my experiences as a citizen of the world.
Closing things out, what are you currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
🎤 I am currently promoting my third album 💿 THE SUBTERRANEA SESSIONS, which is a project that I particularly care about because I have followed all the stages of the production process: audio, video, graphic and photographic. For the rest: I also love to keep secrets 🙂
