Getting to Know… In Peril: Interview No. 161 🎤 [📷: In Peril, Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype] On our 161th interview in our Getting to Know… series, we chat it up with In Peril, a band balancing catchy tunes & having fun.

“If you want dead serious and clinical, then honestly, we’re probably not the band for you.” Good to know, 🎙 In Peril, good to know.  Well, good news band – we love a balance of great music and fun here at The Musical Hype! The UK-based hard rock band, the interviewees of 161st Q&A, go on to say, “Our tunes are pretty catchy, and you’ll probably leave a show with one or two stuck in your head.” Awesome, awesome, awesome.   As always, the interview experience is intriguing, and nothing penned in this introduction dare supplants it. So, without further ado, we unleash 🎤 Getting to Know… In Peril: Interview No. 161!

Starting things off right, for those who may not be familiar with In Peril, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 If you want dead serious and clinical, then honestly, we’re probably not the band for you. We love to play what feels good and to have a laugh while doing so. Anybody who has been to any one of our gigs or seen any of us playing in any of our previous bands will know that we all just love to take the piss out of each other (mostly Gary…)  Our tunes are pretty catchy, and you’ll probably leave a show with one or two stuck in your head.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did In Peril form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 🎙 Hayden, 🎙 Gary, and 🎙 James all met roughly 15 years ago – all playing in another band (called Dry Til Friday) at various times.  All this time later, they all got back together to start something new – originally with a different lead guitarist who, sadly had to go off his own way for personal reasons. This is where 🎙 Matt came along (around 18 months ago) and managed to fill the gap and we’ve been happy ever since!

Goals? We just want to inflict our music on as many willing (or unwilling!) ears as we can find.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Like we said before – we just want to play to whoever will listen to our material.  If that’s in some dive-bar in some twisted back-street – cool. If it happens to be in front of a decent sized festival – awesome. Wembley Arena?  Hell yeah – tell us when and we’ll be there. (Too ambitious…?)

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Between us, we’ve got a pretty eclectic mix of likes and ‘influences.’ For example – Gary loves a bit of Stone Sour or GNR, while Hayden digs some of the heavier stuff – perhaps a bit of Deftones. James however (as much as the guys give him some stick for it!) is a massive Metallica fan. It all combines to give us a pretty broad sound when we all get together!

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Tour?  In the middle of a pandemic!?  We bloody wish we could get out there right now! Craziest thing?  The very last gig we played before the world ended – James’ amp literally caught fire, mid-set!  (There was definitely some shonky cabling going on in this dingy biker bar we played at!) Or several years ago, mid-set – a massive bar fight breaks out in front of the band Hayden was in at the time, with a guy getting glassed in the face while the band were still on stage!

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 We’re all mega proud of our debut ‘single’ 🎵 Bad Dreams & Battering Rams” – we spent about a year writing and perfecting that one, before we eventually got it recorded and released in November 2020. 2020 was a year when mental health issues were massively brought to the fore by the shite that’s going on in the world right now, and this tune was written with this in mind.  It sorta deals with and confronts the demons that some might have in their minds as a result of it all.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Don’t get left in a room by yourself with Gary.  (He gets a bit handsy…!)

Interesting… Closing things out, what is In Peril currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 So, because we can’t get out and actually play gigs right now, we’ve been finalizing and mixing some of the tunes we managed to record back in October.
We’ve already put out “Bad Dreams & Battering Rams” and 🎵 “Your Decision” – we’re going to be dropping our next one – 🎵 The Life of Gary” on 23rd January 2021.

We love this next one and we know that some of our fans have been waiting for this one to be released – it’s all about our much loved (but very unlucky) drummer, Gary.  We love him so much; we wrote a song about him!

“The Life of Gary” is available (along with our other releases) on our Spotify or via our Facebook page. Give us listen and a ‘like’ and we hope to see some of you from a stage when the planet recovers and gets it’s shit together!

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
