“Our speed combined with the violence of our music.” That is how 🎙 I, Apokalypse describes what makes them distinct and rock the audience’s socks off! The Canadian (North Quebec) apocalyptic, blackened death metal band adds, “we are driven by our emotions, so the feeling of our music is the very expression of ourselves.” Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop the collective’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… I, Apokalypse: Interview No. 362!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes I, Apokalypse distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I would say it’s our speed combined with the violence of our music. On top of that, I would say that even though this is our first album, you can hear the maturity of in our sound. We are driven by our emotions, so the feeling of our music is the very expression of ourselves.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did I, Apokalypse form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

We are a 4 piece band that are together for about 5 years and are all passionate about extreme metal music. The band started when the 3 (🎙 Minos, 🎙 Amaruk and 🎙 Marthyn) reunited after a couple of years without playing together , and later 🎙 Audeath joined us. We had played together in past project, but we wanted to start a band with another energy. The goal was to play music that each and every member of the band would like, without compromise.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Well, with our experience with previous bands that we’ve played in, we start this project with a very grounded vision. We mainly wanted to do music that we loved and that’s it. If good things come, good.. if not, well too bad. But I would say, so far, so good. We have a better where we would want to go now. But mainly it will be as far as our music brings us.

I, Apokalypse

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Belphegor, Dark Funeral to name a few. We have been listening to this type of music for over 25 years. This gives us a lot of background in a matter of inspiration. On top of that, we played in other bands with other inspirations, so it bring us a more open vision of our music.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Sadly, we didn’t have the opportunity to tour yet with this project. We had experience in the past with other bands, but besides that, it’s pretty quiet on that side . Hope will have a lot of adventures in the next few years.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

It’s hard to focus on just one. But I would say that I like the way we are starting our live show with the intro and the song,  🎵 “Of Terror and Torment.” This is a perfect song to start a show. Fast, violent and show pretty much what we are made of.

I, Apokalypse

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Nothing outstanding, sadly. I think we are pretty much boring people outside the music. We have been musicians, focused on our music since we were young, so, I would say our talents or anything special revolves around music. I think it is more of our day to day life that people don’t see us as people doing that kind of music. We are a sleeper in a way – looks normal in the day…turn into beasts in the night.

Closing out, what is I, Apokalypse currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

We started working on a new song that should be recorded this fall for a release by the end of the year. Other than that, we are starting to look for shows in 2024 everywhere we can, so hopefully people will be able to see us near their hometown next year,

Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
