“We certainly haven’t reinvented the wheel, but we know how to make energetic music.” Now that’s a quote right there, 🎙 Gloria Volt! The Winterthur, Switzerland hard rock band’s response to our first burning question is pitch perfect! Gloria Volt is comprised of 🎙 Fredi Volvo (vocals), 🎙 Pim Peter (guitar), 🎙 Lord Latex (guitar), 🎙 Marino Marroni (bass), and 🎙 Pascal Goodknight (drums). Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the collective: their genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know…Gloria Volt: Interview No. 305!

For those who may not be familiar with Gloria Volt, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 What makes us unique is that we do our thing, and we definitely have recognition value. We certainly haven’t reinvented the wheel, but we know how to make energetic music. Exactly this energy can be clearly felt at our live shows. We are so full of energy that the audience already appears 😊 without socks at our concerts.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Gloria Volt form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

🎤 We all played in different bands before, which eventually broke up, there was everything from punk rock or pop rock or stoner punk. And of the remaining ones, we founded Gloria Volt. The only goal we had was certainly to finally make hard rock music. Maybe even to play some fat shows and of course, destroy a lot of beer, that’s always the goal anyway.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 I think we had some cool shows, and we never lost the joy of what we do, which is maybe the reason why we still exist. Meanwhile, some of us have a family and we have all grown older. I think that changes the goals already. We certainly won’t conquer the world anymore, but we will always enjoy what we do. And playing shows is the biggest thing anyway, whether in front of 1000 or 20 people!

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 We all love hard rock, rock music in general. The Cult is a band that we all like, which has certainly influenced us. I’m a big Hellacopters fan, they always influence me anyway.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 We were on the road with an Australian band and after the show, we did a lot of teasing together. One of us didn’t get enough and did it until the next night at the next show. The singer of the Australian band then bet with him that he could no longer play a note. He had hit every note and had a lot of fun doing it. After each song, he got off the stage and embraced the singer of the other band intimately. We laughed and we were all amazed.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 My favorite song is “lose alone” from our last record. It has a melancholic touch and a great melody, and rocks, what more 😊 could you want?

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 I cook the best Coq Au Vin, a classic French dish with poultry. And I’ve certainly seen Dirty Dancing 23 times. Oops, the world doesn’t necessarily need to know 😊 that.

Closing out, what is Gloria Volt currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We have a new EP in the box, and it will be released soon. Otherwise, we hope to play some good shows. And something else. Our guitarist will complete his 3-month microwave cooking class next week. He then invites us to a few frozen cookies.

Thank you for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions and good luck with the evolution.

🎤 Thanks back, I enjoyed it! Fredi Volvo, Gloria Volt
