Here at The Musical Hype, we are greatly honored to have the Italian DJ and house/tech producer as our latest interviewee. Throughout the course of this extensive Q&A he gives us great insight into his background, craft, and present and future aspirations.  So, without further ado, let’s dive right into Getting to Know… Federico Ambrosi: DJ Interview (Interview #146).

Ciao Federico! Thanks so much for agreeing to answer some questions for The Musical Hype. My first question is pretty simple, yet complex at the same time. For those who are unfamiliar with you – at least right now – how would you describe your music? What makes you distinct or unique?

🎤 Federico Ambrosi (FA): Ciao Brent! It’s a pleasure for me to answers to your questions, it’s always nice to share something more about my love and passion for music. For those who are unfamiliar I can say I’m an Italian DJ and producer of house/tech house music. I think my tracks can be distinguished for their energy and the groove. When I make music, I always try to do something that can make people move on the dance floor during a show. The work of a good DJ is to try to entertain the crowd and I try always to do it the best way that I can.

Okay, how about some background – some of those juicy backstories! When did you first become interested in music or becoming a musician? What experiences early in your life helped shape you as the DJ and music producer that you are now?

🎤 FA: I understood I wanted to be a DJ, and later a producer as well, I think in 2008 when I usually went to a historical club here in my town called Alterego. There were fantastic parties and the club was at the top of a hill in Verona and from there you could see all the city lights. Anyways, before that moment, I already could feel a special relation with music. I had several influences but I think the biggest one was when I listened to Paolo Martini, he was the resident [DJ] of the Alterego club. I still remember he played some tracks of Jamie Jones, one of my favorite artists. The crazy thing is that now I’m signed to his label, Hottrax, something I really wanted to achieve for a long time.

Federico Ambrosi [📷 : Federico Ambrosi] What are some of your aspirations and goals for the future? What does the vision of Federico Ambrosi look like?

🎤 FA: I think the most beautiful thing for an artist to achieve is to live doing what you’re passionate about! There is nothing better for me than to travel, visit new places and at the same time, do what I love! The last winter I was on tour in South America, I lived there for 4 months and it was really amazing!

All musicians have a variety of influences, musical and otherwise. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how do they influence you? Beyond musical influences, what else motivates you in your craft?

🎤 FA: Like I was saying before, my biggest influences are Paolo Martini, Jamie Jones, Luca Agnelli, wAFF, Detlef and many more. The thing which motivates me more is to discover and the desire to become better day by day! At the beginning, I [wondered how the process] worked to make a track. Now, what has happened is that a stupid game with the computer, trying to make some random sound(s), has become my work!

Federico Ambrosi [📷 : Federico Ambrosi]As a DJ and producer, how does the ‘magic’ happen in the studio?  What is your process for creating awesome music? Many producers use a variety of equipment, software, and instruments create some ‘sick’ music, so, what do you use?

🎤 FA: It depends each time. Sometimes you start and you already have an idea. Other times, you just try at the moment and experiment with what comes out! There are no rules for creativity for music. There are no limits! I used to produce music with Logic Pro X 10.5.1. Recently, I updated the software, and with the latest update, there were some amazing changes!

As musicians, we all have songs we’ve performed that have a special place in our hearts for a variety of reasons. What would you describe as your favorite song or a song that’s extremely special to you that you’ve recorded, performed, remixed, etc.? Why is that song special?

🎤 FA: I can say that the first song which made me feel something special was my track “Illusion.” I don’t know why but even now when I listen to it, I can feel peace, tranquility and positive feelings. I’m talking of a track really old and I’ve actually changed my style a lot, but it had a special flavor in my journey.

Federico Ambrosi [📷 : Federico Ambrosi]Lightening things up, what would you describe as a crazy, unusual, or total whacky experience when recording, performing live, touring, or otherwise in your life? Feel free to be creative!

🎤 FA: I remember when I was touring last January in a city in Argentina called Olavarria. It was my birthday and I played like 7/8 hours nonstop with no substances at all. We did the afterparty in a big house in the middle of nowhere, haha! It was so nice, and Argentinian friends, while I was playing, wished me happy birthday. It was really unforgettable celebrating a birthday like this!

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or ‘left of center’ the world should know about you Federico? Secret talents, surprising tidbits, favorite swear words, haha?

🎤 FA: Haha, here is actually a stupid thing. I like to call all the people I know with ‘bro’ haha. Usually, due to traveling a lot, I’m a really easygoing guy and friendly person. I think traveling helps you to open your mind a lot!

I know I ask a lot of questions, but we’re winding down – promise! What are you currently working on or promoting that you can share with The Musical Hype (and the world)? Secrets are awesome, but there’s no pressure – well – not that much!

🎤 FA: In the next few months, I have a lot of new music coming out on Nathan Barato’s and Carlo Lio’s label, 🏷 Rawthentic, on Solardo’s label, 🏷 Sola, and a great EP on Detlef’s label, 🏷 Issues. I’m working also on a new EP with Paolo Martini!

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

🎤 FA: Thank you Brent was fun to answer to your questions and I wish you all the best! Thanks for your great vibes!!
