“What distinguishes us is our distinctive blend of various styles, from metal to pop and punk..” Woo hoo 🎙 Exilia! In response to our first burning question, the Italian female-fronted band adds, “Our lyrics delve into profound emotions, evoking deep states of the soul..” Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on Exilia’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know…Exilia: Interview No. 370!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Exilia distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

We are EXILIA, an Italian female act. What distinguishes us is our distinctive blend of various styles, from metal to pop and punk. As a unique alternative metal band, we hit hard and touch the soul. Our lyrics delve into profound emotions, evoking deep states of the soul. On stage, our energy is electric, crafting an immersive experience that leaves the audience hungry for more.

ExiliaOkay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Exilia form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

The band came together in 2000, fueled by a mutual love for alternative metal. From the outset, our vision was to create music that wasn’t only audible but also deeply felt. In the beginning, there wasn’t a specific goal; we simply yearned to play and explore something new. Passion cannot be fabricated, and when the heart is guiding your journey, setting goals takes a back seat.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Our core vision remains unwavering, our passion is as intense as ever, and our energy is still vibrant. As we’ve matured, we’ve gained fresh insights and sharpened our focus. Our aim is to craft songs that stay with you, deliver unforgettable live performances, and ignite a positive shift towards personal freedom through our music.

ExiliaEverybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Our music draws inspiration from a variety of influential sources. Bands like Korn, Metallica, Alice in Chains, Björk, and Muse have played a significant role in shaping our distinct sound. We admire their musical styles and the distinctive ways they approach their craft.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Oh, yes! We once had the incredible opportunity to be special guests for Rammstein, I believe it was in Russia. There was this unexpected moment when one of their impressive stage flames accidentally flared up for a brief moment while we were performing. Our bass player happened to be right there at that time. It created quite a memorable scene, and for a little while, there was a peculiar scent of burnt meat around us. And, we’re vegetarians…

ExiliaUp until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

We really love 🎵 “Feel the Fire.” It’s a song that’s full of energy, with a super catchy chorus that gets people excited. Masha’s (🎙 Masha Mysmane) singing in this song is so powerful, and she did an amazing job performing it. The song has a way of getting the crowd pumped up and shows the deep feelings we put into our music. It’s like a song that tells you to follow your dreams no matter what.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Beyond music, our lead singer 🎙 Masha Mysmane is a huge animal lover. She’s really involved in helping animals through organizations like Sea Shepherd and Soy Dog Foundation. Plus, we’re proud to have a music school in Milan where we aim to inspire young musicians who are the future of music.
