In the 354th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from West London, electro-stoner band, Englomanatic Glitch.
“Our drummer writes all the music, and he can’t play any melodic instruments even if his life depended on it.” Say what, 🎙 Englomanatic Glitch? In response to our first burning question, the West London, electro-stoner band adds, “We just hit you straight in the face from start to finish..” Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Englomanatic Glitch: Interview No. 354!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Englomanatic Glitch distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
It would probably have to be the fact that our drummer writes all the music and he can’t play any melodic instruments even if his life depended on it. We also have an incredibly talented singer that can blow your eardrums off. We also do not mess around with long intros, guitar solos or unnecessarily long parts in our songs. We just hit you straight in the face from start to finish. Or at least that’s the theory, ha-ha.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Englomanatic Glitch form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
We met by sharing a house when we were in uni and we started the band as a dissertation project for Viko (our drummer). He had to write and record an album of about 40 mins. Needless to say, the house was an absolute mess when we left it but home to what was the start of Englomanatic Glitch. In the beginning we didn’t really have any big goals, but Viko had a very clear vision of what he wanted to get from the first album, which was a combination of stoner metal and drum and bass, without using digital synths or drums. That goal was somewhat achieved with our first album, 💿 Coming Undone, however since then, EG’s style has evolved and continues to do so into something that we think is a lot more homogeneous and listenable.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
Well, our goals are very simple – we want to write banging music and make big crowds jump and have a good time.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
Each of us has different musical influences. Drewzi (singer) is a big fan of Alex Turner and Chris Cornell, Emo (guitar) has a classical music background but loves anything from death metal to modern pop music. Elijah (bass) is probably the one that listens to the most music out of all of us and his influences vary from modern rock to Latin music and hip hop, a genre that Emo loves too. As for Viko (drums) it will probably have to be something like Pantera. Very simple, but he’s a drummer so that normally explains a lot, ha-ha.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
Ou.. that would be a bit too much to share.
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
We can all unanimously agree that until now it has to be 🎵 “Wretched Palace”. It’s just a song that we all love playing.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
You’ll have to stay with us and follow us for that as we have loads of things in the making that involve most of our secret talents.
Closing out, what is Englomanatic Glitch currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
We have a new video out, 🎵 “Tribulations in May,” that is an absolute banger, both the song and the video. It has a really cool protagonist that is as mysterious as he is charismatic. After that we have another two videos that will be released later this year as well as another single. We are also constantly working on new music, so we’ve got loads more in the making for next year or maybe even later in 2023.
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
