Getting to Know... Days To Come [Photo Credits: Days to Come; Brent Faulkner; The Musical Hype]For the 23rd interview in the ‘Getting to Know…’ series, The Musical Hype ‘chews the phat’ with Georgia-based hard rock band Days to Come.

“So many modern rock bands sound like each other and it’s easy to become white noise. Our sound, lyrical content, and attitude are different from other bands.” That’s sheer confidence and selling yourself right there! After a brief hiatus, The Musical Hype has yet another musical interaction to present.  You know what time it is – ‘Getting to Know…’ interview time! The latest prospect is Days to Come, a hard rock band based in the good old southern state of Georgia, sigh. The collective, which “blends pop-styled vocal melodies over heavier, intricate music” is comprised of Justin Goodson (vocals), Brandon Rix (guitar), and Jalen Hall (drums).  Without further ado, it is time to get to know Days to Come!

Brent Faulkner, The Musical Hype (BF): Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Days to Come distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

Justin (vocals) – My name is Justin Goodson and I’m the vocalist for the Georgia-based hard rock band Days to Come. Brandon Rix is our guitarist and Jalen Hall is our drummer. We try to blend pop-styled vocal melodies over heavier, intricate music.

I feel like, very few artists are willing to take chances. They want to play it safe with their sound, image, and songwriting formula. So many modern rock bands sound like each other and it’s easy to become white noise. Our sound, lyrical content, and attitude are different from other bands. We may not please everyone, but we’re also not trying to.

BF: Love that answer! Moving on, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Days to Come form, and what were some of the goals or the visions you had early on?

Justin: The band officially formed in 2014. I met Brandon at a local music store one afternoon before a gig and we ‘hit it off’ pretty quickly. Jalen joined us in early 2018. We’ve had a few lineup changes over the years, but we feel pretty confident in the team we currently have.

I’ve wanted to be in a band since I was 17. I was a military brat and spent my teenage years moving around a good bit and wasn’t able to commit to a group until I was in my 20s. I spent years playing solo acoustic gigs. I tried to join bands and find other musicians to start one, but nothing worked out until I found the guys and started Days.

BF: Awesome. Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

Brandon (guitar): I would think so. One of the main goals is to get the band to become successful enough for it to sustain itself. That’s been one of our goals since day one. We’re always trying to set and reach little goals to keep moving forward. All of the little steps add up over time.

BF: Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Brandon: Some of my influences are Slash, Steve Vai, Devin Townsend, and Plini. I’ve drawn inspiration from each of them and they help shape me as an artist

BF: Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

Justin: A few years ago, we had the opportunity to support Art of Anarchy at their Atlanta show at the Masquerade during their tour. At the time, AOA had Scott Stapp singing for them. I was pretty excited about the opportunity to meet Scott because of his work with Creed. Before the show, Brandon and I were walking backstage, and we were able to meet Scott. I went to shake his hand, but we couldn’t seem to decide on how we were gonna do it. It ended up being an awkward fist bump, high five, handshake. It was awkward, Brandon said hey, and we all parted ways.

BF: An awkward fist-bump, high, and handshake with Scott Stapp? That’s definitely qualifies as whacky! Moving on, up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

Jalen (drums): Our new single, “Siren” is so much fun to play live. It’s punchy and dynamic. Definitely a fan favorite.

BF: Good stuff. Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Jalen: Well, according to my peers, I’m very good at voice impressions. From Gollum to Mickey Mouse, you name it. Also, a little trivia for you, the song that made me wanna play the drums was Kelly Clarkson’s “Behind These Hazel Eyes”.

BF: “Behind These Hazel Eyes” was the motivation? Quite interesting. Closing this thing out, what is you/your band currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Jalen: We just released our single Siren (January 25th). It’s such a fun song to play at shows and, so far, the reaction to it has been great. If you’re a fan of hard rock with clean, melodic vocals, there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy it.

We’re playing a few dates in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama in April and June with our friends in Ventruss. After that, we’ll embark on our biggest tour yet in July for Rockfest! It’s gonna be a doozie.

We’re planning on releasing our next single, “Wolves” in April, and we’re shooting to release new music every 10 or so weeks. This is an exciting year for us, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

BF: Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
