So, without further ado, The Musical Hype humbly presents 🎤 Getting to Know… Darkest Horizon: Interview No. 192!

Starting things off, for those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Darkest Horizon distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 Our bombastic sound will blow you away! Our mix of beautiful soundscapes and melodic metal makes us unique.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did your Darkest Horizon form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

🎤 I wasn’t part of the lineup that started the band. In fact, none of us were a member of Darkest Horizon at that time. But back then, we all joined within a 6–8-month period. Except Enis, he joined in 2018. For all of us it is clear to bring the music as far as possible. We want to conquer 😉 every country and doing live shows for all people out there.

Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Our goal is to make a living out of this. There were times this goal fell into the background, but now we are back at it again. But the one thing that drives us through the years is, to make every song, the best one we are able to do. The music is our first goal, we wouldn’t record something that we don’t like. As we started and released our first EP, and played some shows, we just wanted to make music and play in front of an audience. But we realized quite fast, that our music reached further than we imagined, so we start taking it more seriously.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Oh, that one is tricky. We do have a lot of influences. Every member has a bucket full of individual bands and artists which influences their approach. On the one hand, I think for Darkest Horizon the most important influences are soundtrack creators like Hans Zimmer, Two Steps from Hell etc. on the other, metal bands like Dark Tranquility, Wintersun, old In Flames stuff, Amon Amarth and maybe something like Nightwish in a way.

Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.

🎤 Uh yes, there are some, but not everyone should be taken out into the internet xD. But we had some funny experiences though. Our first show in Asia for example: we flew to Sri Lanka and had to learn, that our common sense for time was completely different. We were called to be ready at 12a.m. (pickup to the concert location). Around 1 a.m., we started wondering and worried, but the locals told us that our German time management just does not worked over there. We simply have to wait; they will pick us up, at some point in time. So, that was strange. Another funny story: at one point we played a festival in Germany. We gave a signing session and at this session, Jonas was asked by a fan, if he could sell her his dirty, used stage outfit. He explained to her that he had never ever washed it in the last three years. He did not even hang it out to dry in the fresh air. I can still smell it. Nevertheless, she got excited and really wanted to have it. That was one of the creepiest things I have experienced in my life so far.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 From my personal point of view, the best song has always been the next song that we release. I put in everything I can, and it is, most of the time, the song that I love to play live. But in these times, live concerts aren’t on our schedule. So, I loved playing  🎵 “Omnipotence Paradox” from the 💿 Aenigmata album, there is so much rhythm in there, and the power that is building up is amazing, especially live. A different one is 🎵 “Ad Astra” from our first EP. That one is so easy and so much fun to jump around and have fun with everybody in the audience.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Hm… I don’t think so… wait, beside all that music stuff? We are interested in every kind of art. We love to tell stories and we do this within our songs. We love making movies, music videos etc. For those of you who would like to see us in a greater perspective, follow us on Instagram. You’ll find different types of art connected to each other.

Closing things out, what is Darkest Horizon currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 We are always working on something. Currently we are waiting to get our next single mix out of the studio. Furthermore, we just had an amazing photo shooting. That location was so amazing, and we are pondering different things that we can do there as well. So, stay tuned! More is to come. 😉

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

🎤 Thank you for these questions! We had a blast answering these.
