In the 316th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Norwegian metal band, Dark Delirium.
“We have some twisted sounds out of the ordinary – melo-death infused with blackened sound.” That sounds dark, 🎙 Dark Delirium! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the Norwegian metal band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Dark Delirium: Interview No. 316!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Dark Delirium distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
🎤 The sound picture! We have some twisted sounds out of the ordinary – melo-death infused with blackened sound. But not to get confused with Dark Delirium as a band that only does the same thing over and over. Constantly trying to change it up if it means bringing in some soft and smooth, clean vocals blended with the high screams and low growls.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Dark Delirium form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
🎤 It started with the Covid pandemic. 🎙 Simeon and 🎙 Halvar have always loved playing music and performing live together. But finally, when the world was on lockdown, we had to try to realize the dream of making our own music. So, Simeon asked his younger brother, 🎙 David, if he would try to write lyrics and sing on demos that were ready. And it turned out amazing! Even though David is not a part of the band anymore, Simeon, Halvar, and 🎙 Daniel [Logi] are still aching to perform live and push Dark Delirium to the greatest heights. Our vision from the start has been to perform at the biggest festival on the biggest stages.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
🎤 Our goals are still the same and as long as we still breathe we will not stop, even when we have reached the goal! If we one day could make a living from music, that would be a dream come true!
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
🎤 There is so many but to not spam this interview with band names… Metallica, Judas Priest, Lamb of God, Avenged Sevenfold and whoops, dare I say it… Bullet For My Valentine, and Breaking Benjamin.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
🎤 Ah, the “Champagne” story. We played a concert in Kristiansand in Norway. And boy did we get drunk! Daniel Logi, our bassist had bought a champagne bottle because he wanted us to celebrate after the concert, but he had forgotten about it. We played the concert and were ready to get shit-faced. So, we went out around the city in bars until the curfew was long overdue. We managed to drag ourselves back to the hotel. Everyone had one eye closed and the other halfway open, then Daniel drug out his champagne bottle and said we should celebrate. But there was no way any of us could drink anything more. So, he went to the hot tub and sat there the whole night finishing his champagne bottle. When Simeon woke up he found Daniel with his champagne bottle in his arms laying there in an overfilled tub with his boxers on. Simeon just turned from the bathroom and told the rest of the band about Daniel. It was hilarious… should have taken a picture.
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
🎤 🎵 “Slave of Darkness,” definitely! We have used that song as our last song on our setlist and it`s freaking awesome to see all the people going crazy in the end. Moshing, headbanging like there is no tomorrow. The song got great energy with dark vocals that just make people’s heads move.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
🎤 We think there is something wrong with Simeon. He never rests, always working with some new songs or doing the administration bit. Daniel sings bass in an opera choir.
Closing out, what is Dark Delirium currently working on or promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
🎤 Our 3rd Album, 💿 New Era, is out the 25th of November! You can find it everywhere if you just search… Maybe in your parent’s apartment!? We are also getting ready for a Norway tour in 2023.
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
