Getting to Know…Crostpaths: Interview No. 356 [📷: Brent Faulkner / The Musical Hype; Crostpaths; Tumisu via Pixabay] In the 356th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from UK genre-bending collective, Crostpaths.

“Despite being British we openly take heavy influence from the States.” Cool, 🎙 Crostpaths! Describing their background, the UK, genre-bending band informs us, “We’re a quintet with a core 4 formed from 2 previous projects (one rap-punk outfit and the other was an emotional post-hardcore group).” Intriguing! Like other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band’s goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Crostpaths: Interview No. 356!

For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Crostpaths distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

We respectfully ask them to remove their footwear.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Crostpaths form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

We’re a quintet with a core 4 formed from 2 previous projects (one rap-punk outfit and the other was an emotional post-hardcore group). The vision was to form a new band with no boundaries. The goals were to tick off the bucket list items that we’d failed to achieve in those previous bands.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

We often acknowledge that those teenage dreams of “making it” no longer exist. Chasing fame is not in our remit but reaching as many people as possible with our music is the ultimate goal. That means playing the biggest stages we possibly can. Attaining certain levels of airplay and press coverage goes hand in hand with that. We’ve had some small victories so far, here’s hoping for some more!

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

Despite being British we openly take heavy influence from the States. Individually, our tastes are broad and varied but our Venn diagram would have the likes of Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach and more from one side of the pond with The Prodigy, BMTH, Skindred and more from this side.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

From a performance aspect, crowd interaction is essential and thus we often instigate stage invasions at our shows. In terms of street cred, Benji Webbe (Skindred/Dub War) was in attendance when we opened for The Kennedy Soundtrack. Wackiest thing is probably being approached by porn producers after our set at London Comic Con. We politely declined of course… Or did we?

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

It’s actually a 3-way tie. 🎵 “Rampage” (and the remix feat. Kid Bookie): Pure energetic chaos, does what it says on the tin.  🎵 “Meridian”: This was a real mission statement from our first EP, showcasing that we were open-minded to blending numerous styles. 🎵 “Nostalgia”: The opening track from our new EP was one of the smoothest writing processes we’ve ever had, it’s highly charged emotionally too.

CrostpathsIs there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Owain is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest time to eat a 1kg jar of pickles. Mikey spent his childhood working around the country for a travelling circus. James is allergic to kumquat. Ritchie is colorblind. Erim is in too many bands (Salvation Jayne, Enquire Within, Wake Up Leo, Minister, probably more)

Closing out, what is Crostpaths currently working on or promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

It’s public knowledge that on 26th May we celebrate our new EP release day at The Black Heart, Camden. As for some top secret behind the scenes goes… There MIGHT be a remix of one of our new tracks that features a couple of special guests…
