In the 482nd Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Collaborations, a project where indie artists collaborate to produce inspirational songs.
“We are not really a band.” Oh… Collaborations! Okay… Please, explain, Ed Daniels. “We are a project that indie artists collaborate on to produce uplifting, inspirational songs.” Gotcha! In Getting to Know… Collaborations: Interview No. 482, Daniels provides the inside scoop on this collaborative project that is not a band, including goals, musical influences, and current and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into Collaborations!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Collaborations distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
What makes us distinct is the fact that we are not really a band. We are a project that indie artists collaborate on to produce uplifting, inspirational songs. I (Ed Daniels) own and manage the project called Collaborations. So far, we have 17 members of the team who contribute to the songs. Occasionally, we will do a live show, but not that often.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How was Collaborations born, and what were some of your goals or visions early?
The project was my Idea a few years back. I love writing songs and realized that if I did it all myself, the result would not be as good as if I had others helping me. So, I set the groundwork for each song by developing a framework that includes a melody line, rhythm guitar track, and a hook or theme. I then passed it along to my indie artists collaborators for them to add their parts into it.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
My end goal is to get as many people to hear our music as possible in order to make a difference. Then we would like to get some of our songs into TV/film. The end goal is to create a revenue stream that we can then donate to local charities.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences, and how are they influential?
I am influenced by the soulful music of the ’60s and ’70s, and this is reflected in our style of songs.
To this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live?
“Running Out Of Tomorrows”
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center we should know about Collaborations? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
I [Ed Daniels] am a retired IT Executive who has won four national video game design awards, including the most innovative software. I also have 42 patents. I believe that all my engineering skills are directly applicable to making songs.
What is Collaborations currently working on or promoting that you can share? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
We are currently working on our next release, including a holiday song.
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
