Getting to Know... Chasing Apparitions: Interview 🎤 #99For our 99th interview, Josey Stines answers our burning questions about his Indiana-based metalcore outfit, Chasing Apparitions.

“Chasing Apparitions understand that people still want heavy music and we intend to deliver the heavy.” Rock on Chasing Apparitions – rock on! Originally a solo project by Josey Stines, the metalcore project expanded, including Justin Stubbs on vocals. Just read on though! You’ll gain more insight into CA as Stines provides the answers for all of our questions on Getting to Know… Chasing Apparitions: Interview #99!

Let’s get this started off right. For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Chasing Apparitions distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

I would have to say that our live shows & our heavy riffs make us stand out. Lately it seems like a lot of bands are taking the radio rock route so they can increase their revenue streams. Chasing Apparitions understand that people still want heavy music & we intend to deliver the heavy.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Chasing Apparitions form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?

Chasing Apparitions was originally a solo project by myself. Eventually as time went on, I realized that I couldn’t do everything I wanted to do by myself. I found Jacob Ortengren via social media & we worked some songs & got them recorded so we could audition some vocalists. Our producer Jonathan Dolese recommended Justin Stubbs & we clicked instantly. Our goals & visions are pretty small right now, just release an EP & see what kind of reaction people give us.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

When I first started out my only goal was to go to a studio & record something that I could physically hold in my hands. Some time has passed & I’ve been lucky enough to have my name on a number of releases by various bands, so now my goals are more about touring for a long period of time or increasing our number of monthly listeners via Spotify or Apple Music. I just want to get Chasing Apparitions in front of as many eyes as possible.

Originally my biggest inspiration was Asking Alexandria. Watching their music video for “The Final Episode (Let’s Change the Channel)” made me want to be a musician. The aesthetic, the music, I loved it all. As time passes, I draw inspiration from other bands, Bad Omens, Thousand Below, Dayseeker, just to name a few.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

During one show in Bedford, IN we got to watch as a guitarist went through the stage due to jumping up & down. The show stopped & they put a table over the hole, but not even 2 minutes later the vocalist’s foot slammed through the stage as well. The look on the promoter’s face was priceless.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

At this point in my career I would say that “L’appel Du Vide” is my personal favorite out of anything I’ve ever done. I went through a really tough time in my life before this EP was written & that song by itself captures every thought & emotion I had during that time.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

Fun Fact about me: I can play the trumpet & the baritone. *laugh* I also jam Katy Perry sometimes; her music is catchy.

Closing things out, what is Chasing Apparitions currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

Currently, Chasing Apparitions is promoting our newest single “As Above, So Below”, but we do have a new single “L’appel Du Vide” coming out on 8.7.2020 that everyone should keep an eye out for. Our sophomore EP, Am I Worth Saving?, will be released shortly after so please make sure to follow us on our socials so you can keep up to date on everything.

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.

Thank you so much for having us. We really appreciate it.
