In the 293rd Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Bengaluru (India) stoner/doom metal band, Bevar Sea.
“Most of us are inspired by 60s and 70s rock and the good old 80s heavy metal and that pretty much comes out in our style..”
Awesome, 🎙 Bevar Sea! When later asked about their favorite song in our 293rd Q&A, the stoner/doom metal collective from Bengaluru, India simply can’t choose one, asserting, “Each song has been an experience writing and glad to say that we can take any song we’ve written to a live gig and the crowd will groove to it, no doubt.” We may not get a definitive answer, but we get a great, respectable one! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band’s beginnings, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Bevar Sea: Interview No. 293!For those who may not be familiar with Bevar Sea, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
🎤 Hey there, thanks for having us. We stick to our roots when it comes to music. Most of us are inspired by 60s and 70s rock and the good old 80s heavy metal and that pretty much comes out in our style. That said, we’ve got patterns and a sound that’s quite original to us. Heck, some of our scales aren’t even in a music theory book – we just play stuff till we like it and stitch it together.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Bevar Sea form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
🎤 The band was formed basically as a bedroom project by 🎙 Srikanth Panaman. He kind of played till he figured he could put the material he was coming up with on an album. And most of those riffs made it to our self-titled debut album, 💿 Bevar Sea. We really didn’t have visions and stuff apart from the fact that we love what we do. We’ve now got 3 studio albums and played 100s of shows over the last decade, so that’s been great.
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
🎤 Yeah, of course. Striking the right balance between our music and the stuff that pays our bills is important. And that kinda gives us the liberty to create the music we want when we want and how we want it. We want to keep writing, playing gigs, and possibly tour in 2023.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
🎤 Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Orange Goblin, Spiritual Beggars, and Cathedral are some of the names that inspire the band’s sound. Individually it’s a lot more diverse than just the aforementioned bands. It’s their pure riffs and composition structures that we hang onto when creating stuff of our own.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
🎤 Our bassist socked an organizer once – he was being a prick honestly. We had to run for our lives with all our gear before the cops got the better of us. Ha-ha!
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
🎤 Ahh very hard to choose honestly. Each song has been an experience writing and glad to say that we can take any song we’ve written to a live gig and the crowd will groove to it, no doubt.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
🎤 We wish. We’re normal blokes who work full-time jobs, take care of our families, hit the local bars, and have a good laugh at everything around us.
Closing out, what is Bevar Sea currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
🎤 Oh yes. We just released our 3rd studio album, 💿 The Timeless Zone. Hard work and we’re super happy how it turned out. We pulled together 6 belting tracks and we’ve gotten some positive reviews and fans reaching out for what we’ve brought to the table, so that’s nice. Check it out – https://bevarsea.bandcamp.com/
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
