For our 164th interview, we get insightful answers to our burning questions from intriguing, Northern England ‘grit pop’ band, Arcadian Haze.
“We get the audience going through our funky verses and sing along choruses!” Sounds like a winning plan 🎙 Arcadian Haze. The Northern England collective characterize themselves as a ‘grit pop’ band, fusing “funky grooves, hip hop beats, and indie rock.” Pretty cool, right? As always is the case with our Q&As, we have a set of burning questions and the band does a ‘bang-up job’ providing intriguing, insightful answers. So, without any further ado, let’s let the band play – rather speak – and tune into 🎤 Getting to Know… Arcadian Haze: Interview No. 164!
Starting things off right. For those who may not be familiar with Arcadian Haze, what would you say makes your band distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
🎤 We know we’re unique as no one could nail us down to a specific genre so in the end we came up with the term ‘grit pop’. I think we get the audience going through our funky verses and sing along choruses! I feel as if we’re one of the only bands out there at the moment who take care in our lyrics too.
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Arcadian Haze form and what were some of the goals or the visions you had as a band early on?
🎤 We’re a bit of a ‘supergroup’ back in our small hometown of Barnsley as back in 2017, 2 members of A.K.A Pipeline (🎙 Tye and 🎙 Jamie) combined with 2 members of Gaia (🎙 Gilby and 🎙 Rosey). Tye and Rosey worked together a long with 🎙 Nathan (co-lead singer) so nature took its cause. Our goal and visions have always been the same to earn enough to free us from our mundane jobs (or in Gilby’s case the dole) and if we can have a good time in the process then that’s just a perk of a career in music init!?
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
🎤 Our goal is still the same as mentioned in the previous question; however, I think we’ve enough going for us to really take the music world by storm and leave a legacy of great tunes behind.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Who would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
🎤 Well I (Tye, the other co-lead singer) was brought up on the 70s punk stuff and bands from the 80s such as The Pogues and The Smiths, so I’ve always had the fire in my belly and the consciousness of always writing meaningful lyrics. Later in life I started to appreciate all genres of music but especially hip-hop which inspired me to be in a band with others who wanted to fuse it with guitar music.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
🎤 We’ve had plenty of daft stuff happened on stage but nothing I wouldn’t expect happens all the time to bands I.e. fans getting on stage, stealing the mics or showing their arses to the crowd and then obviously we’ve all fell of the stage before haven’t we? Our really daft tour stories are off the stage if I’m being honest, but I’d be here all day so maybe that’s best left for the next interview?
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
🎤 Wow that’s a hard question, a bit like asking me which of my children is the favourite! If I had to pick one, I’ll go with 🎵 “Love on The Dole” purely because it’s the latest one we wrote which has been recorded.
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
🎤 I’ve recently took up darts in my kitchen as a side hobby and got my first 180 yesterday!
Closing this thing out, what is Arcadian Haze currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
🎤 We released our debut 3-track EP 💿 Love On The Dole in December and we’re ready to record the follow up and tour them this year (lockdown permitting).
