“Alot of our melodies are influenced by 70’s soul, 80’s pop, 90’s alternative, and a wide mix of classical music.” Awesome, 🎙 Anchor The Storm (🎙 Os Vin, 🎙 Justin “Telf” Telfer, and 🎙 Matt Farrington)! In response to our first burning question, the band expounds, asserting, “We write brutal riffs and play the hell out of our instruments.  Finally, we tell stories with our music and lyrics that a lot of people can relate to.” We get the inside scoop on Anchor The Storm’s genesis (formed during quarantine), goals (crank out music, etc.), musical influences (Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.0, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Anchor The Storm: Interview No. 321!

For those who may not be familiar with Anchor The Storm, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 What makes Anchor unique begins with influences.  A lot of our melodies are influenced by 70’s soul, 80’s pop, 90’s alternative, and a wide mix of classical music.  This gives the music a sense of familiarity that hides the next part.  We write brutal riffs and play the hell out of our instruments.  Finally, we tell stories with our music and lyrics that a lot of people can relate to.  So far, it’s been amazing to share this strange art with our musical family.

Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Anchor The Storm form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

🎤 We formed in quarantine.  We were all stuck sitting around and decide that we were not going to let the isolation keep us from being our best selves.  So, we started sending music to each other and decided to put it all together and make a go of it.  Our vision is to crank out music, play shows, share it out, rinse and repeat.  Touring is in the works as well.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 We’ve learned that the comparison game is a waste of time. It’s our music and our work.  It’ll take as long as it needs to take to get us to a place where we can share it with the most people we can.  Instead of lying plans too far ahead, we now go from single to single and show to show. Video to video… We’re learning more this way and getting better and better.

Anchor The StormEverybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 Pantera showed Matt the path of the shredder.  He’s never looked back. Avenged Sevenfold inspired Telf to sing and play drums at the same time. Os learned from Sevendust and King’s X how to make melodies from other styles fit metal music.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 We played a show that was back lining for two acts.  (That’s where their amps and sometimes drums are behind yours.  It can make the stage a lot smaller, but it helps the night go more smoothly.)  The headliner also decided to front line.  There were pedals and all sorts of things in front of us as well.  This left us a 2-foot window to play a show.  Long story short, Os was in the middle and on the edge of the stage.  Directly behind him was a cymbal stand on a rack that pointed straight out.  He later told the band that his choice was to hang off the edge of the stage or take the cymbal rod in his ass.  He chose the edge of the stage and nearly fell 4 times.  It was hilarious.  Bad memories, good times.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 🎵 “What Remains” was the beginning of Anchor and has a place in our hearts as a result.  We poured a lot of soul into the recording and have zero regrets about how it came out.  It’s a trip to play live and we love to share it.

Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left-of-center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Os is VERY left-handed.  The only thing he does right-handed is play guitar.  He wrote a song about the strangeness of doing everything backward.  The track is called 🎵 “Hemispheric Dominance”.  Get a listen to the song with that in mind and the lyrics will pop out at you.

Closing out, what is Anchor The Storm currently working on, or promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 Our newest single, 🎵 “Unleashed,” is available on all platforms and can be accessed from our socials.  We’ve got a new one set to come out in early 2023 called 💿 The Price of Faith.  Hear it all at https://linktr.ee/anchorthestorm
