In the 380th Q&A in our Getting to Know… series, we get the inside scoop from Austrian hard rock band, Adrenaline Kings.
“We’re not unique or distinct at all.” Um, okay, 🎙 Adrenaline Kings! Please, tell us more! “We play pretty standard 80s metal, which I guess isn’t especially common nowadays. So, maybe that makes us distinct after all!” WORD! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the Austrian hard rock band’s genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… Adrenaline Kings: Interview No. 380!
For those who may not be familiar with you, what would you say makes Adrenaline Kings distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?
We’re not unique or distinct at all – we play pretty standard 80s metal, which I guess isn’t especially common nowadays. So maybe that makes us distinct after all!
Okay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did Adrenaline Kings form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?
We formed in a traditional way – I advertised in the local Vienna forums that I was looking for band members and the band came together that way. Really, we were all unified in our desire to play the same type of music as our favorite bands from the 80s, which in 2002 was pretty unusual!
Let’s talk more about goals. Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?
In the beginning we really wanted to conquer the world like most young bands. Nowadays, I think we just enjoy making music and want as many people as possible to hear it.
Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?
For me, as the main songwriter in the band, it’s definitely 80s metal: Scorpions, Whitesnake, Dokken, etc. As a guitar player I’m inspired by the greats of the genre (Yngwie, Paul Gilbert) as well as the younger Instagram generation, who really don’t appear to have any technical weaknesses. The other guys in the band have somewhat more diverse tastes than me, but 80s metal is our common ground.
Ah, the fun stuff. What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance? Feel free to be creative.
We once got a Macho Man Randy Savage impersonator to come on stage during our encore, which was unexpected and slightly unsettling for all involved.
Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?
One song that’s always fun is a tune called 🎵 “Prince of Perversia,” which is a relatively epic 5-minute classic featuring a very exotic riff. It’s fun to sing, fun to play and would probably be fun to dance to if I weren’t encumbered by a guitar!
Is there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?
I am also a pub quizmaster extraordinaire in Vienna. Come for the questions, stay for the brewskis.
Closing out, what is Adrenaline Kings currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.
We have a new song out called 🎵 “The Grand Tour” that’s inspired by the Gran Turismo video game. Obviously, we believe it’s a good song to rock out to when cruising in your car!
Next up in the pipeline after that is a cover version of a relatively well known boy band song that’s already in the can. We may have to work on our choreography for that one!
Thank you so much for sharing and taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
