“Both of us coming from heavy/death metal and metalcore backgrounds.” Okay, 🎙 A Brave Face, that’s interesting. They add, “You wouldn’t expect us to create a pop/rock band but that’s what we did.” Now that fact right there – that changes things a bit! Like our many other Getting to Know Q&As, we get the inside scoop on the band: their genesis, goals, musical influences, and of course, current, and future musical endeavors. So, without further ado, let’s jump right into 🎤 Getting to Know… A Brave Face: Interview No. 327!

For those who may not be familiar with A Brave Face, what would you say makes you distinct or unique? How do you rock the audience’s socks off?

🎤 A Brave Face was formed by 2 lifelong friends: 🎙️ Richard Hardy and 🎙️ Jonathan Robinson. Both of us coming from heavy/death metal, and metalcore backgrounds you wouldn’t expect us to create a Pop/rock band but that’s what we did. If you listen closely, you can hear that influence in the music and not just speeded up pop songs. We use a lot of slowed down metal and hardcore drum beats, we drop into half time in a few songs and one song even has a breakdown (pop version).

A Brave FaceOkay, let’s explore some juicy backstories. How did A Brave Face form and what were some of the goals or visions you had early on?

🎤 A Brave Face formed in 2021 as a side project but amidst the various pandemic shutdowns it become our primary focus. We released our debut EP, 💿 Love, Passion, Hope, Escape, last month.  Our main goal is to write music we enjoy playing and that hopefully has something for the listener to take away with them. We write from our own experiences, growing up, having a family, having children, dealing with personal issues like depression, anxiety, addiction whether in our own lives or watching our friends and families struggles. Just things that everyone deals with everyday.

Let’s talk more about goals.  Have your goals or your perspectives changed since first starting out? What do your aspirations or goals look like now?

🎤 Our goal as a band is to get to a place where we can regularly release music, whether it be singles, EPs or full length albums. We would love to start playing some shows this coming summer, but right now we are focused on just writing and recording.

Everybody is influenced by somebody else. Whom would you consider some of your biggest musical influences and how are they influential?

🎤 We draw influence from a lot of genres of music. For this project, we really went back to our childhoods and the pop music we grew up on, the icons we looked up to as kids and teens. Greats like Michael Jackson, Elton John, Phil Collins. Bands like Genesis, the Beatles, and heaps of cock rock. Currently, we are really into Charlie Puth – the guy’s a musical genius.

Ah, the fun stuff.  What’s your craziest tour story or the wackiest thing that’s happened during a performance?  Feel free to be creative.

🎤 We haven’t played any live shows as A Brave Face yet, but I have a story from another band I was in.  We where playing this show, and a huge fight broke out in the pit seconds before we took the stage. Security cleared the whole venue, and we walked out to nobody. They started letting people back in about half way through our set. The promoter had to keep the schedule going so the headliner could get on at their agreed upon time. It sucked, but we understood and got on another show because of it.

Up until this point in your career, what would you describe as your favorite song you’ve recorded or performed live? What makes that song special?

🎤 Personally our favorite song to date is 🎵 “You Will Always Be Loved” because it’s about our kids. A kind of anthem to them so that know wherever they go or whatever they do, they will always have a place to call home and will always be loved.

A Brave FaceIs there anything else awesome, cool, or left of center the world should know about you? Secret talents or surprising tidbits?

🎤 Aside from music, we love to do photography and painting. Hopefully we will be sharing some of that on our social media pages soon. Also, we are huge video game nerds.

Closing out, what is A Brave Face currently working on, promoting that you can share with us or want us to know about? We love secrets, but there’s no pressure.

🎤 Currently we are working on a piano/vocal version of our EP that should be out early this coming year. Also, we are recording two new singles that we are looking to release this coming spring.

Thank you so much for sharing taking the time to answer these questions, and best of luck moving forward.
