Welsh singer/singer Georgia Fearn showcases phenomenal potential & promise on “L’Amour,” the single & opener from her debut LP, ‘Perfect on Paper.’
Ladies and gents, get prepared to add a sick new artist to your playlist! Georgia Fearn is a Welsh singer/songwriter who is the ripe old age of 17. Don’t let her youth fool you! This alternative musician has tricks up her sleeve that far transcend her modest time on Earth. Need the proof? Look no further than “L’Amour,” the single and the opener from her debut LP, Perfect on Paper. “L’Amour” isn’t merely ‘perfect on paper,’ it’s perfect on the ears as well!
The production is among the biggest selling points of “L’Amour.” The use of the accordion is distinct, and definitely supportive of the French title (“love”). In addition to the accordion, the synths and the drum programming shine. “L’Amour” is a super groovy, rhythmic joint, even with its laid-back, moderate tempo. Upping the ante in regards to the production work and musicianship is the thoughtful use of musical space. Space is an underestimated ‘deadly weapon’ that isn’t utilized enough in music. Georgia Fearn utilizes it well here.
More on that Fearn girl – this is about her after all. She packs a punch with her enigmatic, poetic, spoken word moments. Besides those select moments, she also shows off a fantastic, powerful instrument. The tone and the attitude that she brings is awesome, particularly given her young age. The chorus is ‘to die for.’ On the bridge, she effective sings in an undertone, eventually ascending into that commanding upper register. Just a couple more things worth mentioning about the bridge. Great harmonic changes that occur during this section provide great contrast, and eliminates predictability. Also, worth mentioning is the addition of emotional strings, sigh.
