Always consistent, singer-songwriter George Ezra returns with “Hold My Girl,” the fourth single released in advance of sophomore album, ‘Staying at Tamara’s.’
George Ezra is back! In 2015, the deep, robust-voiced singer-songwriter shined on his debut album, Wanted on Voyage. That effort included gems including ‘ace-in-the-hole’ “Budapest,” “Cassy O’,” and “Listen to the Man.” In advance of his highly-anticipated sophomore album, Staying at Tamara’s (March 23, 2018), Ezra has dropped numerous singles: “Don’t Matter Now”, “Paradise”, “Pretty Shining People”, and “Hold My Girl.”
“Hold My Girl” initially features acoustic guitar accompaniment. As the record progresses, the production becomes fuller, including the addition of piano and strings. George Ezra continues to impress with his beautiful, husky, and robust vocals. By far, at this point in his career, this continues to be his selling point. There’s premium value placed on his vocal performance here, given the fact that “Hold My Girl” lacks the entertainment value of some of his records. It’s well-rounded but doesn’t have the fun of the likes of “Listen to the Man” or more recently, “Don’t Matter Now.”
Final Thoughts
All in all, George Ezra delivers another consistent and enjoyable song with “Hold My Girl.” This isn’t the most thrilling song released in advance of Staying at Tamara’s, but it’s another winner. As always, Ezra sounds terrific.
