He’s back – pop singer/songwriter Gavin DeGraw that is! DeGraw returns with “Kite Like Girl,” a single from his forthcoming album, Something Worth Saving. Something Worth Saving arrives September 9. Prior to issuing “Kite Like Girl,” DeGraw released single “She Sets the City On Fire.”
“Kite Like Girl” is rhythmic from the jump. The groovy nature of the track is a great selling point for the listener. Vocally, Gavin DeGraw delivers clear vocals. Additionally, he’s surrounded by solid vocal production. Despite being in the game for years, DeGraw sounds ripe as ever. Listening to him, it’s unfortunate he’s as underrated as he is.
By the chorus, “Kite Like Girl” sounds incredibly fun, not far-fetched from the fun showcased on electronic-pop/EDM records. That said, “Kite Like Girl” isn’t EDM, but rather soulful pop. Unsurprisingly, the record benefits from a catchy chorus. Even so, the best moment is arguably the bridge, where DeGraw’s voice is at its most soulful, cutting through the production.
Final Thoughts
“Kite Like Girl” is a well-produced, quick-paced pop record. Gavin DeGraw sounds as ripe as ever hear, not losing a bit of the swagger that originally made him a captivating pop musician. Whether or not “Kite Like Girl” can breakthrough, DeGraw is clearly on his ‘A-Game’ well into his established career.
