GASHI, My Year [Photo Credit: RCA]African-born, Brooklyn bred rapper GASHI taps Bay Area rapper G-Eazy for his first new single of 2019, the banging anthem, “My Year.”

For the first time ever, we welcome rapper GASHI on The Musical Hype, sigh.  The rapper was born in Africa, and raised in Brooklyn, New York. GASHI is back with a brand-new single to kick of 2019 right, “My Year.” Of course, it’s better to share his ‘year’ with a friend, right? Right, hence, a guest appearance by the one and only G-Eazy.

“My Year” has a number of pros working in its favor. One is optimal length, just crossing the three-minute mark. Beyond duration, there’s the awesome, sleek production work, courtesy of Wax Motif and Judge.  Focusing on the star, GASHI gives an energetic performance. One’s gotta love and respect the rhythmic nature of his bars, as well as the confidence he exudes throughout.

“I’m hot now, I could never flop now

Finally, gettin’ guap now, made it off the block now

Do it for my hometown, made it with my whole sound

Every single city you mention me, yeah they know now.”

Following the verses, he drops an aggressive, assertive, and hella confident bridge and hook.  He keeps things simple, but despite the simplicity, the results are highly effective. G-Eazy arrives for the second verse, providing contrast with more chill rhymes.  Like GASHI, he also performs a bridge prior to the high-flying chorus (“This my year / This gon be my year / This gon be my year”). GASHI returns for another electrifying verse, followed by hook and outro.

Final Thoughts

All in all, GASHI delivers an enjoyable banger with “My Year.” G-Eazy provides the Brooklyn rapper with a great assist.  This is a well-produced track, and while it’s not transcendent or game changing, it’s definitely a worthwhile anthem to celebrate 2019.
