Rising R&B artist Gabriel Garzón-Montano keeps things classy, natural, and unforced on his latest single, “Golden Wings.”
Gabriel Garzón-Montano released one of the best albums in 2017 that few knew about or discussed. Sad, sad, sad. Jardín was a smart, well-arranged/producer R&B album, clearly the product of an educated, gifted musician. Once again, the funk-loving, Prince-adoring singer/songwriter impresses on “Golden Wings.”
On “Golden Wings,” Garzón-Montano picks up right where he left off on Jardín. The percussive groove anchors things down, while the music is warm and laid-back, yet still ‘cooks.’ The sound palette trends softer – gentler synths, subtle organ, synth bass, and of course, harmonized vocals. Vocally, Garzón-Montano never pushes his voice, singing with a confident ease. What stands out about this record is how natural it sounds. There’s never the sense that Gabriel has to force anything in the least. As far as the songwriting, its poetic and beautifully penned. Much like the record as a whole, Gabriel keeps things relatively simple.
Final Thoughts
Once again, the unheralded Gabriel Garzón-Montano “shines bright like a diamond.” “Golden Wings” is nothing short of glorious. It maintains the sanctity of R&B music, while also integrating deeper musicianship.
