G-Eazy, West Coast [Photo Credit: RCA]Bay Area rapper G-Eazy, assisted by rapper Blueface, despite turning up the flex action,  misses the mark on the brief “West Coast.”

G-Eazy is set to release a brand-new album in 2019.  Perhaps “West Coast,” featuring fellow rapper Blueface, will appear on the album. On the other hand, maybe it won’t.  Regardless, on this brief joint (only 2:20), the flex is real from both rapper’s perspective.  Unfortunately, neither rapper managed to get the memo that quality is a requirement, ugh.

Thankfully, “West Coast” is no longer than it is.  The record begins with pitch-shifted vocals on the intro. Furthermore, it features a rhythmic West Coast beat, which is a pro. Mixed in the background are a number of lines sung by Richie Rich.  Why? “West Coast” samples “Let’s Ride”. It’s interesting, if a bit annoying after a while.  As aforementioned, neither rapper offers much profundity in regard to their rhymes. G-Eazy focuses on money (“The way this money look, I’ll be signed to Sony for years”), drugs (“Micro-dosing ‘shrooms and I might just go pop a thizz”), and promoting his new album (“I’m coming this summer, yeah, it’s safe to assume / I’m finna clean up using Golden State’s broom”).

Blueface, like G-Eazy doesn’t offer anything brand-new.  His focus is sex (“Been mackin’, I got more bitches than PetCo”), his drip (“VVSs breakin’ and bustin’ like the Metro”), and some totally NSFW moments that are just plumb bizarre:

“Freak ho, my pants sag until the meat show

Yeah, a’ight, welcome to the meat show

Two dicks, big pisser and a Glicko

I like fuckin’, all my bitches call me fucker

We can fuck if you can’t take the rug burn.”

Nothing short of a hot mess. A bridge led by Richie Rich appears in between Eazy and Blueface’s respective verses.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, this is an odd record that in my mind, just doesn’t quite work. It has its moments, mostly the beat TBH, but I’m not sure it all came together.  In fact, I know it didn’t come all together.
