The always confident G-Eazy, enlists Tory Lanez & Tyga for the enjoyable, sex-driven banger, “Still Be Friends.”
Has G-Eazy ever had any shortage of confidence? It certainly doesn’t seem like it. I’d venture to respond to that question with a confident answer of HELL NO. The single at hand, “Still Be Friends” definitely finds the Bay Area rapper, um, ‘feeling himself’ as always. He enlists a couple of friends for this banger: Tory Lanez and Tyga. Also, worth noting, the cover art of “Still Be Friends” features a picture of a condom (in the wrapper). Yeah…
Like so many rap songs, “Still Be Friends” features like a million writers. Okay, it’s not a million, but there are 11 co-writers. Why? Well, there are a couple of interpolations in the mix. Foreign Teck and Tariq Beats gives G-Eazy and friends a banging backdrop, perfect fuel for their unapologetic fire. After Foreign Teck makes the proclamation on the intro “Everything Foreign,” Tory Lanez drops the catchy, melodic chorus:
“I know you don’t do one-night stands So, I’m thee closest thing Now can we fuck and still be friends, though? And If you haven’t fucked a friend I’d be the closest thing So, can we fuck and still be friends, though?”
Wow, what a chorus. After revealing the cards with the chorus, G-Eazy, chocked-full of cockiness and confidence, is on autopilot, making it clear “She not my girlfriend though, we just friends” – friends that are ‘doing it’ of course. Tyga arrives on the second verse, bragging “I can pull anay bitch, man it’s automatic,” adding more notches to his belt, of course. After ‘doing work’ on the unapologetic chorus, Troy Lanez drops a straight-up rap on the third verse, keeping it sexual: “When I kill the pussy they gon;’ arrest me / I be lookin’ at it like, ‘Don’t test me.’”
Final Thoughts
To reiterate, G-Eazy has never lacked confidence, and “Still Be Friends” confirms his level of cockiness. Furthermore, he puts rappers on that are equally confident, and of course, enjoy sex, even if it’s meaningless sex. “Still Be Friends” won’t change any lives – there’s no depth – but, it’s enjoyable. Like the Trippie Redd cut, “YELL OH”, I review previously, it’s shallow, but, I’d argue Eazy, Lanez, and Tyga execute slightly better.
