Bay Area rapper G-Eazy and Louisville, Kentucky bred rapper Jack Harlow join forces for the chill, but entertaining “Moana.”
COVID-19 pandemic – definitely a five-letter word, ugh. What has been positive about being ‘quarantined’ during this nightmare is that there has been an abundance of new music. Sure, many musicians are holding off on album releases and have had to change plans prior to the coronavirus, but that hasn’t halted some creative singles and unexpected collaborations. Here, we bring the Bay Area and Louisville, Kentucky together – who would’ve thought? That’s right, G-Eazy and the continually ascending Jack Harlow join forces on “Moana.” “Moana,” like the Disney/Pixar film? Anyways, let’s dive in, shall we?
“Moana” is set in a minor key. Yes, minor keys signify darkness and definitely moodiness, but “Moana” is pretty chill – laid back despite that darkness. Produced by Zaytoven, he definitely sets up G-Eazy and Jack Harlow for success. The backdrop is energetic and potent, but at the same time, doesn’t even perspire. The listeners are rewarded with a catchy, infectious chorus right after the intro, performed by Harlow. Some of the highlights? Money, missing Obama, and the key lyric, “Got a bitch from Samoa, like Moana.” Yeah, I was wondering how the guys were gonna work that in.
G-Eazy takes the reins on the first verse, eschewing drama but engaging in partying and most of all sex. This should come as no surprise from a playboy like Eazy. I quote, “But her ass so fat that I can’t ignore it / Woo, I go crazy for it / … And the sex so good, she wanna pay me for it, no.” Of course, a line worth potentially scrutinizing from Eazy: “I know a Keisha and I know Lana…” Harlow arrives for the second verse, “Sipping on CÎROC,” having good sex, and closing out with a bang (“From Sactown all the way to Oakland / I get it thumping, got this bitch jumping”).
Final Thoughts
G-Eazy and Jack Harlow put together a chill but enjoyable banger with “Moana.” Will it change your life? Nope, there’s nothing transcendent about it, but it’s catchy and easygoing.
