Future, Crushed Up [Photo Credit: Epic]Future continues to execute a familiar game-plan on his first new single from 2019, “Crushed Up.” It’s good (enough), but nothing groundbreaking.

“Plain Jane, Jackie Chan, Richard Mille / You gon’ be the one bust it down, I can see it.” Yeah, Future is prolific – he releases lots and LOTS of music.  Calling the arrival of a new single from the Atlanta rapper ‘exciting’ at this point might be a major OVERSTATEMENT.  Nonetheless, he continues to drop new singles, with his first of 2019 being “Crushed Up.” He keeps things brief on “Crushed Up,” mustering up only two-and-a-half-minutes of music.

“Crushed Up” definitely doesn’t find Future switching up his style – understatement.  Set in a minor key, “Crushed Up” is anchored by archetypical trap percussion and surrounded by lovely, gangsta synths (for lack of a better description).  The chorus, which follows the aforementioned intro, keeps things basic AF: “Diamonds in the face crushed up, I can see it.” This is what we’ve come to expect from the autotuned loving rapper, and he doesn’t divert from the script whatsoever.  His verses are filled with materialism and drugs.  He’s so confident that at one point, he asserts, “I just put my whole damn arm in the fridge.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Future drops a decent single with “Crushed Up,” but again, nothing game-changing in the least.  We’ve heard him rap about the topics at hand a countless number of times.  The more saturated he becomes, the less interesting or distinct his music feels, at least form my perspective.
