Ahead of his sophomore album Jungle Rules, French Montana, assisted by Pharrell, drops a banger with “Bring Dem Things.”
Most of us expected French Montana to drop his sophomore album in 2016. Originally, the rapper had set MC4 to arrive throughout the course of the year. Ultimately, he scrapped the album, despite the fact that he had something going with single “No Shopping,” featuring Drake. Save for a last-minute change, Jungle Rules arrives mid-July 2017. After dropping singles “Unforgettable” and “No Pressure,” French brings the heat with “Bring Dem Things,” featuring Pharrell Williams.
The hook is rapped by an uncredited artist, for whatever reason. He should demand to be credited – he nails it without a hitch. It’s catchy, well-suited to the looped production work.
“When I pull up they notice me / Come and talk to me like Jodeci / But don’t you be too close to me/ Them goons you see, let it go for me / I bring them things, I bring them things /I call the plug (hello?) he bring them things / Mucho b*tches, I bring them tings / Looking so expensive, rings and things /I bring them things…”
Pharrell arrives next, rapping the first verse. The result is some serious fire! This is surprising not because of a lack of ability, but because it’s been a minute since Pharrell went this hard.
Once again, French Montana takes the second verse as opposed to kicking things off. This also occurs on “Unforgettable,” where Swae delivers an extended hook that ultimately ‘steals the show.’ Here, French offers a respectable verse, but he shouldn’t take a victory lap or anything like that. In addition to some clever bars, he gets a lift from a production switch at the beginning of the verse, hailing back to early hip-hip. Soon enough, the fiery loop kicks back in, and he gets to work.
Final Thoughts
“Bring Dem Things” is a certified banger. One listen is enough to hear the magic captured. This record not only has the vibe, but it also has some solid rhymes as well. Still, put Pharrell and French Montana side by side and who wins best rapper for this one? Pharrell. Why didn’t French take the first verse – “that is the question.” Still, all in all, “Bring Dem Things” is fire.
