Fred again.., BERWYN, and Gesaffelstein collaborate on the brief but thrilling “BerwynGesaffNeighbours,” the second track from Fred’s USB album.
Seven words: “Fuck the neighbors, turn the music up.” More on that, later! Fred again.. is the stuff. He’s one of the hottest producers in the game. Consistently releasing singles and projects, Fred again.. is also prolific. April 9th, 2024, saw the Grammy winner unveil USB, which features the must-hear banger, “BerwynGesaffNeighbours”. Yes, it’s an odd title but, given the collaborators – BERWYN (Berwyn Du Bois) and Gesaffelstein (Mike Levy) – it makes sense. “Neighbours,” hence, is two minutes and change of musical greatness.
“BerwynGesaffNeighbours” was written by all three musicians while Fred again.. produced it. The palette of sounds is marvelous. The keys, synths, sound effects, and groove shape this cut. Notably, the song remixes/samples his own “Berwyn (all that I got is you)” and the 2013 Gesaffelstein song, “Destinations”. Minimalist and exhibiting a cooler energy initially, “Neighbours” picks up in intensity. Not only does the instrumental gain steam, but so does BERWYN who provides the spoken and rap vocals. “Neighbours” centers around the unapologetic, swagger-laden lyric, “Fuck the neighbors, turn the music up.” It’s a party vibe, with BERWYN spitting bars that play to that vibe and aesthetic. By the second verse, Du Bois is in the zone, matching the ramped-up intensity of the badass instrumental. Fred again.. strikes again! He, BERWYN, and Gesaffelstein make a formidable team.
