Foo Fighters, Rescued | Track Review 🎵

Foo Fighters address the devasting loss of Taylor Hawkins on “Rescued,” the promo single and opening track from their 11^th studio album, But Here We Are.

First and foremost, rest in peace, 🎙 Taylor Hawkins. The loss of the incredibly talented 🎙 Foo Fighters drummer 🥁 was a huge one – devastating and totally unexpected.  Iconic front man 🎙 Dave Grohl has experienced two huge losses – Kurt Cobain in the 90s, and Hawkins.  Even so, the show must go on, or so Foo Fighters decided to move forward as a band.  The result is their 11^th studio album, 💿 But Here We Are (June 2, 2023), led by the dynamic lead single, 🎵 “Rescued”. So, addressing the elephant in the room, who plays drums on “Rescued”? Grohl.

“Rescued” was produced by the band alongside producer extraordinaire, 🎛 Greg Kurstin. Kurstin has tended to get the best out of the band during his tenure as producer over the last couple of albums. Once more, the sound is strong.  As mentioned earlier, “Rescued” is dynamic, as in LOUD AND IN YOUR FACE LIKE IT’S SCREAMING AT YOU 🤘!!! Grohl is intense in both his drumming and vocals.  Clearly, he seeks to memorialize his late friend and bandmate, as well as carry on the torch – Hawkins’ death leaves a serious void.  “It came in a flash, it came outta nowhere,” Grohl sings in the first verse, adding, “It happened so fast, and then it was over.” Sigh, indeed, 😭. In the chorus, he asserts, “I’m just waitin’ to be rescued, bring me back to life / …We’re all just waitin’ to be rescued tonight.” Clearly, the record is a reaction to Hawkins’ unexpected passing, and how it has affected the band. It feels fitting that this song is the first single as well as the opening track from But Here We Are.

Final Thoughts 💭 

Foo Fighters is one of the best bands in the game, period. Honestly, I am happy that they decided to continue as a band, even though they experienced a such a devastating loss.  🎵 “Rescued” does a marvelous job of addressing how the 🏆 Grammy-winning band felt after losing Hawkins. What an honest and powerful statement they make: “We’re all just waitin’ to be rescued tonight.”
