Florida Georgia Line returns “May We All” featuring Tim McGraw.  Respectable, “May We All” lacks the same magic of “H.O.L.Y.”

Country duo Florida Georgia Line returns with “May We All,” after winning over a wide audience with single “H.O.L.Y.”  “May We All” is another single from the duo’s forthcoming third LP, Dig Your Roots. Tim McGraw, country royalty, appears as a featured guest.  Can you ever go wrong with Tim McGraw? No – it’s rhetorical!

“May We All” clearly contrasts “H.O.L.Y.,” which is both a good and so-so thing.  What is good is the fact that “May We All” is more countrified, appealing most to Florida Georgia Line’s core audience.  McGraw’s appearance confirms traditional country sentiment . This is a good look for Florida Georgia Line given the death of bro country.  These bros seem to be finding their lane.

On the other hand, the contrast is so-so is because “May We All” isn’t quite as good.  “H.O.L.Y.” was a country record, but written cleverly to make it accessible to pop fans.  The same can’t be said about “May We All,” which is good, but not quite as catchy as its predecessor.  The overall concept is sound, as is the ending. “May We All” is missing that extra special oomph to take it to the next level.

Go back further and ask yourself, does “May We All” compare to the level of hit that “Dirt” was (Anything Goes)? Even if one dares revisit bro-country gem “Cruise” (Here’s to the Good Times), “May We All” is hard pressed to live up to the success of the diamond-certified single. Good/good enough, if unexceptional.
