After releasing a couple of so-so singles from upcoming album ‘Dig You Roots’, Florida Georgia Line “get back on the good foot” with the brief, but enjoyable “Island.”
Florida Georgia Line has released multiple singles ahead of third studio album, Dig Your Roots. The best single was “H.O.L.Y.”. Beyond “H.O.L.Y.,” the other singles are less notable. Latest single, “Island” isn’t perfect, but is a cut above the other songs.
“Island” features a nice enigmatic beginning, alluring from the start. Slower than previous singles, a slow jam bodes well in the duo’s favor. Well produced, the richness of the guitar is a selling point. “Island” employs country cues, yet still has crossover appeal.
In addition to exceptional overall production, the vocal production is superb as well. The vocals are clear and present within the mix. “Island” sports a catchy chorus:
“We might as well be on an island
Might as well be on the moon
The way you’re looking at me baby...”
Additionally, there’s ample repetition:
“We might as well be on an island.”
Enjoyable, but brief, “Island” could’ve used at least ½ minute more.
Final Thoughts 💭
All in all, “Island” is one of the better singles Florida Georgia Line have released ahead of Dig Your Roots. The vocals are well-rounded, and the chorus is catchy and memorable. Arguably, “Island” is too brief. It could’ve used a few more seconds, potentially another full minute. Still, good stuff from FGL, particularly after a few so-so singles.
