3 out of 5 stars

Flo Rida Embraces the art of recycling on latest pop-rap single, “Zillionaire.” Though predictable, “Zillionaire” has all the ingredients to become a hit.

Recycling may not be happening actively across America itself, but in the music biz, recycling is happening every day. By recycling musically, we’re referring to reusing the same old ideas over and over again.  Flo Rida, pop-rap extraordinaire, recycles like a champ runner-up/second runner-up on latest single, “Zillionaire.”

The main issue with “Zillionaire” is that it’s predictable.  The record opens with money sounds (a cash register). That’s cliché as albeit.  The track is sound, if predictably, produced. The brass is an exciting bonus.

Predictable again, Flo Rida performs in his signature “pop-rap” style.  He strikes gold on the big, energetic hook.

“I spend it all on you, baby, baby, just watch / a BMW, a Bugatti, thick rock / get you a fancy act any chance I got / when I become a zillionaire”

Besides the hook, the bridge is the best moment of the song; it has a harder hip-hop edge. It doesn’t fully commit, but it packs more punch than the majority of the song.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Zillionaire” possesses all the cues to be a hit. It’s not particularly distinct or different from other songs, but the cues are in place. Overall, it’s too cliché and generic in regards to topic and overall sound. The production, hook, and bridge make it interesting enough.
