59th Annual Grammy Award nomination predictions: Adele will be nominated in three out of the four big categories.
On December 6, 2016, the 59th Annual Grammy Awards nominations are set to be announced. Soon, every Grammy enthusiast will be at rest knowing who is up for the awards. Still – at least at the time of this publication – the nominations haven’t been announced. Here is the last guess at who may hear their name announced.
Record of the Year:
Adele, “Hello”
The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey, “Closer”
Drake ft. Kyla & WizKid, “One Dance”
Sia ft. Sean Paul, “Cheap Thrills”
Lukas Graham, “7 Years”
The only surefire lock here is “Hello.” The other four are strong, but many folks believe that Beyoncé will land a nomination for “Formation.” Maybe. Also it’s possible Justin Bieber snags a nomination for “Love Yourself” here, even if it’s more likely destination is Song of the Year. Could The Weeknd get another shot at this category with “Starboy?”
Album of the Year:
Adele, 25
Beyoncé, Lemonade
Drake, Views
David Bowie, Blackstar
Rihanna, Anti
Two albums are locks – 25 and Lemonade. Views wasn’t a critical triumph, but its commercial success speaks for itself. David Bowie should earn a posthumous nod for Blackstar, among the very best albums of the year. The fifth spot is a toss-up, though Rihanna (Anti) seems a strong bet to snag it. Still, she could be fighting with Justin Bieber…seriously.
Song of the Year:
Adele, “Hello
Lukas Graham, “7 Years”
Justin Bieber, “Love Yourself”
David Bowie, “Lazarus”
The Chainsmokers ft. Halsey, “Closer”
Adele should be a lock for a song of the year nomination as well. “Hello” is probably the frontrunner – before it’s officially nominated! Anyways, Lukas Graham and Justin Bieber should be in excellent shape here. David Bowie could get a look here with “Lazarus,” but it’s not guaranteed. The other spot is a toss-up. The Chainsmokers definitely shouldn’t get their hopes up for “Closer” getting a nod here.
Best New Artist:
Shawn Mendes
Alessia Cara
Maren Morris
Chance the Rapper
The Chainsmokers
Alessia Cara and Maren Morris seem like locks here. Shawn Mendes should be, but could miss the mark. Lukas Graham, not listed but nominated in the big categories, could get the nod, but could also fall short. Chance the Rapper seems like the most likely candidate to represent urban music, while The Chainsmokers seem too accomplished to not be under consideration.
