Felix Jaehn & Jonas Blue, Past Life | Track Review

German DJ/producer Felix Jaehn, and English DJ/producer Jonas Blue, put in serious work on their summery dance gem, “Past Life.”

“Did you wake up and feel / Like we’ve been here before?” Woo! “Past Life” features two talented DJs/producers – German musician Felix Jaehn, and English musician, Jonas Blue (Guy James Robin) – collaborating.  The result, as you might expect, is sheer musical excellence. “Past Life” is produced by Jaehn and Blue alongside  JUNKX, and Punctual.  Featuring multiple songwriters, one key writer in addition to Jaehn and Blue is featured singer, Kiwi musician, Navvy (Phoebe Jasper).

Throughout “Past Life,” Navvy’s vocals are sweet. Furthermore, the vocal productions, with various effects, make things even sweeter. I the celestial backdrop supporting Navvy beginning in the first verse. It gains more of a rhythmic identity as it progresses. By the chorus, the rhythmic identity has revealed itself, leading up to the peak, the drop. Speaking of the chorus, it is incredibly – wait for it – CATCHY!

We danced together ‘til the daylight

So familiar how it felt like

I swear we fell in love in a past life

We found each other in the spotlight

And there’s no way it was the first time

Of course, the drop (“In a past life”) follows, and the sounds are incredibly picturesque and fresh.  Moving beyond the drop, the second verse is even more clearly defined, separating itself from the first. The excellence of the song, well, that was established at the opening tip.  All told, “Past Life” is a must-hear, summery dance track worthy of spinning well into autumn! No deep analysis necessary – just enjoy the vibe!
