Fresh blood – always a good thing! No, not being vampirical in the least, just referencing up and coming musicians, that’s all! Morocco-born, Manitoba-raised singer 🎙 Faouzia represents that ‘fresh blood.’  She’s only 20 years old but her potential suggests she’s on the fast track – an upward trajectory.  She hobnobs with R&B royalty on her single, 🎵 “Minefields,” duetting with soulful Grammy-winner 🎙 John Legend.  With young, ripe talent and seasoned, old-school finesse, was there anyway “Minefields” could dare fall flat? NO!

“Minefields” has lots of excellence that bodes in its favor from an underpinning standpoint.  What do I mean? Well, the writing team, in addition to Faouzia is comprised of the likes of 🎙 Ali Tamposi, 🎙 Charlie Puth, 🎙 Halatrax, 🎙 JKash, 🎙 Johnny Goldstein, and 🎙 Sam Martin. Woo! Goldstein handles the classy production, which is warm and inviting – perfect for two strong vocalists to paint over.  Her and Legend trade lines as well as sing together throughout. She holds things down on her own, yet, those expressive, nuanced pipes of Legend add that extra special something.

With such an epic songwriting team, expectedly, “Minefields” is well-written.  Matters of the heart drive the narrative, as Faouzia and Legend take risks to be close to one another – contextually of course! “Maybe I’m just a fool,” they sing together on the pre-chorus, continuing, “I still belong with you / Anywhere you, anywhere you are.” Of course, the centerpiece is where those minefields come in, full force – oh, the risk!

“These minefields that I walk through
What I risk to be close to you
These minefields keeping me from you
What I risk to be close to you
Closet to you
Close to you.”

Final Thoughts 💭

Being my first time hearing Faouzia, I’m quite impressed.  She has a beautiful voice and shows that her future is incredibly bright.  “Minefields” isn’t a game changing pop record, but it is a very good one that definitely delivers those feels.  With the boxes successful checked off, this is a record you’ll want to make sure you add to your listening rotation, NO CAP!
