Fantasia, Enough (Single) [Photo Credit: Rock Soul / BMG Rights Management]Grammy-winning R&B singer Fantasia returns “Enough,” her first new original R&B single since 2016.  She excels on the ‘grown-folks’ R&B ballad.

Fantasia is back! That’s right! “Enough” marks the Grammy-winning R&B musician’s first new music since releasing her Christmas album, Christmas After Midnight in 2017. Notably, “Enough” is independently-released, via Rock Soul, licensed to BMG Rights Management.  It should also be noted that the incredibly underrated Christmas After Midnight was also released via Rock Soul, though licensed to Concord Music Group…  Enough about labels – let’s dive right into “Enough!”

“Enough” runs past the four-and-a-half-minute mark, something that can’t be said of a lot of music in 2019 – shorter records are in for sure.  That said, “Enough” is truly worth every second of its duration.  In addition to being co-written by Fantasia herself, she works with a team of writers comprised of Danielle Davis, Jerome Baylor, Jevon Hill, and Stanley Green, with production courtesy of Hill and Stanley Black. The production work is one of the selling points; it’s a lush mix of adult contemporary R&B, urban contemporary, and pop. There’s brilliant, ear-catching use of pads, string bass, claps, and electric guitar. The sound is old-school, hearkening back to the adult contemporary R&B of the 80s and 90s.

Unsurprisingly, a big, adult contemporary R&B ballad is right in Fantasia’s artistic lane.  She delivers strong vocals, certainly the expectation from a powerhouse like her.  A well-sung, memorable chorus is where her ‘bread is buttered’:

“It’s so hard to let you go
Baby, that’s how I know it’s real love
I fight, but my feelings show
They came rushing in just like a flood
I can’t get enough ‘cause I need you, baby, baby, by my side
You can give me your time
And I’ll always ask for more
‘Cause forever just ain’t long enough.”

With so much made about the production and vocals, what’s the premise of “Enough?” Real love, with Fantasia’s inability to “get enough” of him. On the first verse, she asserts, “I could just live here in your arms, I don’t wanna move.” Oh the second, she states, “And I’ll risk it all for you, baby, no, I ain’t got no shame, oh.” Then later, on the bridge, she sings, “All this love is more than I prayed for / More than I would see in a lifetime / And it’s getting stronger / Baby, just stay here with me.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Fantasia ‘brings the heat’ and ‘delivers the goods’ on her comeback, R&B single, “Enough.” No, the wheel is not reinvented with this old-fashioned, grown-folks R&B ballad, but it’s safe to say that ‘Tasia stays in her lane and comes out on top because of it.  Well-rounded and enjoyable by all means.
