“Shit, baby, you got me mesmerized / Let me sing it for you.” WOO! Well, shit, sing it for us, 🎙 Faith Evans! Sometimes, the Midnight Heat 🕛 🔥 arrives with an older, slightly lesser-known song. 🎵 “Mesmerized” was released as a single from the 🏆 Grammy winner’s 2005, gold certified album, 💿 The First Lady. This funked-up, sexy joint, of course, played the bridesmaid, at best, to the album’s lead single, the soulful 🎵 “Again” (“If I had to do it all again…”).  Despite being underrated, settling for a tepid no. 56 peak on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, “Mesmerized” is a decadent sex song, without crossing the lines 😉. Evans sets the tone with that sassy spoken word intro.

The gist of “Mesmerized” is that this man has totally hypnotized and mesmerized Faith.  “I can’t even sleep (Oh!) / Boy you got me weak (yeah!),” she asserts in the first verse, continuing, “My heart is on fire since you put that thang on me.” Hmm, that thang, huh? More like that… 🍆!!! WOO! Clearly, Evans isn’t merely mesmerized, she’s dickmatized 😈. In the second verse, she admits, “Baby, I’m spellbound / I’m floatin’ on cloud nine / And I don’t think I’m comin’ down.” Clearly, it was G-O-O-D! How good? Well, she gets sanctified by it 👏 👏 👏! “Make me wanna clap my hands (My hands) / Make me wanna stomp my feet (My feet).” All told, 🎵 “Mesmerized” speaks for itself without crossing the line.  Faith implies why she’s so mesmerized, but she’s far less explicit than the more brutally honest brand of sex-fueled music that arrived long afterward.
